Thanks Linda - Can i mix the 2 batch of green beans - Are they the same?
    Argon,

If I am not wrong, the Grade 2 bean has a few defects in it, but not alot that would worry the final outcome of the roast. Beans go by grading. I think that mixing the 2 would still produce a good roast, as G1 and G2 beans only have a small difference.

Try the above website. It will help you understand "Grading" alot better, and for Beanbay when it comes along, when you will find that grading is used alot.

    Hope this helps.

Hi - Santa bought me a gene cafe for xmas and a sample pack of greens.  Both the gene and the sample pack had Eth Yirg beans
Santa was very good to you! Welcome to the club Argon!
You will have many fabulous roasts with the GC.

Are they an easy bean to roast and any suggested profiles for gene?
Ethiopian is an ugly, ugly bean!.
Small and twisted with an extraordinary amount of chaff after cooking....more than most other beans...BUT it is one of the easiest beans to roast.

I find that the Ethiopian doesnt like an overly hot roast. Slow and around 220-225*
for about 16.5 mins. You will find around the 14 min mark they will begin to smoke quite a bit, turn it down then to about 215* then let it go from there.

    Hope this helps

    Yirg beans all the same?

Hi - Santa bought me a gene cafe for xmas and a sample pack of greens.  Both the gene and the sample pack had Eth Yirg beans - one lot is labelled just Ethiopian Yirgacheffe - the other lot is labelled Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Grade 2, washed Arabica.  Are these the same?  Can they be roasted together and to same profile?

Are they an easy bean to roast and any suggested profiles for gene?

    thanks
