Well nico, you have a DMM, you have a heat gun........hmmmm, you are only a Breadmaker away from a corretto setup, which delivers amazing results, BM for $10-20, your good to go, give that hand a rest ........i might just stop there............

We had some of the batch last night. Only three days, but it was a pretty amazing cup. My wife and father in law both commented on how nice it was. My wife does not like very dark roasts, and this one is a bit lighter than what we usually get. I will have to do a slightly larger batch this weekend. The last one was only around 150 grams.

I must say, I really love the process. Coffee in general is quite a steepo learning curve. Just four months ago all I knew was that I love a good cup of coffee. ;D

I took some freshly roasted / ground coffee round to some friends house last weekend (ground and sealed in a small container, not ideal but better then store bought) and proceeded to make them a coffee using a machine I donated to them (old Melita Cappuccino machine).  They were instantly amazed at the difference in quality in the cup over prepacked / ground coffee (that was sitting open on the bench )......

Keep up the good work, youll find a method that suits and gets you the best results with the tools you have available and once your friends start tasting the coffee, they wont laugh quite so loudly.

Roasting is quite a bit of fun, but it may be a bad thing. Everyone I know seems to think I have gone nuts with the whole coffee business.
That seems to be the normal reaction for people who are not in the know and drink instant, just make it your personal goal to educate them with what you learn and of course good coffee.
Try and pick up a 2nd hand popper and have a go at roasting that way.

    Hi Maheel,

Thanks for the info. The pan has teflon coating, and I am not sure what the heck it is, but it sure sucks as a roasting method.

I was also not too sure how far from the beans the hg should have been, it is quite brutal on wood if you hold it too close and too still while stripping paint.

Hey Nico i have NFI really but i thought it might be hard to stir those beans around and around with that hump in the pan?

if you have a look at my bowl thread i used a nice deep sided SSbowl and the beans always stayed in the bottom allowing an easy "stir". It also may have effected the heat mass by retaining the heat in the area. Yurs would spread the heat wide around the pan? I dont know which is better but? The correttos all seem to have a tight bean mass but.

Your beans might taste great but? wait and see

    here is my pics

i have to sort an auto stir but as 20 mins manual agitation......

is that one of those "hot air" pans that allows the heat to come in the middle? Does it have a Teflon coating or something?

First attempt with pan and heat gun

    Hi,

I picked up this pan for $3 at Vinnies. It looked like it may do the job, but I am not too sure. I had my first crack at roasting this weekend using this weirdass pan, heatgun, and CS DMM, and manual agitation. (I bet you wish you had a dollar for each time you heard that joke).

I suspect the pan is a bit too big. I had a hard time getting the temperature distribution even across all the beans. See attached pics.

I heard first ctack at around 13 minutes, and second crack just after 20 (although it resembled first crack, so perhaps my heat distribution was worse than I thought.

The beans are Malawi AA, btw
