    Re: Nicuraguan Altiplano

Thanks for the tips mr slowPod (is that like an iPod running on my antiquated computer?)

I think Ill give them one last shot, going well past the 2C with some good rest before blending. If Im still not happy, Ill try them in my huge green drum roaster-- the one with two little black wheels supplied by the local council and emptied once a week.

    cheers,

    Thanks for the info SP,

I got to the stage using my popper where I thought something must have been wrong with it... dragged out my thermocouple and DMM to check but the temps, which turned out to be spot on at around 220deg C within the bean mass itself.

You described the dominant taste profile pretty well, not very pleasant really. It would be interesting to hear back from someone who uses a BBQ Roaster, a HotTop or Genecafe to see how they went with these. Surely these beans have some redeeming qualities ,

    Mal.

Not an easy bean to roast. I find you need to roast it dark, well past 2nd crack, else the herbaceous & green grass aromas completely dominate everything else. Resting it also helps. Blending it with more neutral bean like Brazil Santos can create an interesting blend. But overall I wasnt particularly keen about this bean. BTW, I roasted with a fry pan, takes about 17-18 min for 300 g.

    Hiya there Rev,

Sorry mate, cant help you there :-?.... I tried as many roast variations as you have by the sounds of things, and in the end I tossed em all in the bin. I think they are a particularly hard bean and perhaps just do not lend themselves to popper roasting. I dont know really.....

Maybe someone with a Genecafe or a Hottop may be able to let us know how they went,

    Mal.

    Nicuraguan Altiplano

OK, I think I need some help here. I have had several attempts at roasting Nicuraguan Altiplano without much success-- they always seem to end up quite bitter and with a strange hint of mothballs (not the warm rounded spice and chocolate hints I was hoping for). I have tried a number of roasts short of a rolling 2C and 60 secs into 2C in my popper. All seem much the same result.

    Any ideas?
