Re: Drop temp, heat ramp etc ??
Thanks for the words of wisdom Den!
Ill be following these guidelines too I think; at least hopefully next weekend when the new baby arrives ;D
Will let you know the outcome!

Thanks Simon and welcome to CS!Originally posted by 474355464251340 link=1266118345/2#2 date=1286963204Dennis,
Ive just done my fourth corretto roast (already onto a second heat gun...), but thats probably one of the most useful posts on roasting temperature ranges ive seen.
Cheers!

The next, and perhaps the most difficult challenge when youre getting decent to good results, is to deviate from the above methodology. Unless you do, you will never know if it could be better.
For example, roast a batch that you already know works well, but this time, when you get to 140 degrees, try increasing the temperature by only 5 degrees per minute till you get to 160, then ramp it up again and follow on as you would normally do.
You will get a different outcome. Let us know whether you like it or not!

Re: Drop temp, heat ramp etc ??
That would be dependent on where the probe is. If youre using a datalogger that generally sits in the bean mass, anywhere between 210* to 225*, again dependent on the bean density. Also, run your roaster for a good 15 minutes before your first load, keeping it hovering at the temps above, as it will stabilise the drum temp.Originally posted by 7A6D6C7267666D393A39080 link=1266118345/0#0 date=1266118345Can someone give me a ball park temperature to drop beans in?
Aim for 10 - 12 degrees increase per minute or in other words try getting to 190 degrees between 10 - 12 minute mark (once again depending on the bean density and what you are trying to achieve overall) then 3 - 5 degrees per minute once 1st crack is achieved.Originally posted by 7A6D6C7267666D393A39080 link=1266118345/0#0 date=1266118345some advice on temp gradiant
These are generalisations, I know, but I think a good starting point. You should also try roasting dark, roasting light, with little and lots of airflow, roasting faster, roasting slower, then tast the results to see where you like them or what combinations of roasting suit your tastes.
Enjoy the journey!

Drop temp, heat ramp etc ??
Apprentice here again.
Can someone give me a ball park temperature to drop beans in?
Also some advice on temp gradiant ie:Gas on 80% till start of FC then off, than ramp up 4 mins later. You know what I mean. Obviously there is a dozen or 2 variables but a general shove in the right direction would be awesome.
(Will stick will 2kg loads for now (looked pretty even)
Cheers
Chris
