    Thanks Robusto!

Doppler, as it was the first one I kind of lost track of time what with the excitement, chaff, burning fingers from holding the improvised flue in place, and smoke. I pulled it when it looked about right. In hindsight, it could have gone a little longer.

So, have just done another three batches (with some to give away to a mate) - and timed carefully.

With a popper - a solid first crack between 3 and 4 minutes. Rolling second crack started around 5 minutes and I pulled it at 5 min 30s. Result: pleasant sheen and decidedly more even result - see below.

Proof as always will be in the cup!

Well done, Zaphod. Theres no looking back now.
I know what I did before the Internet - went out more, wrote letters, made more phone calls - and thought Lavazza was great coffee. :-[

    Another first-ever roast...

Thought Id jump in and also proclaim my neophyte status in coffee roasting.  Never thought Id end up roasting myself, but this forum inspired me to dive in and give it a go.

What did we do without the Internet? From this forum, I not only gained the knowledge of how to roast (thanks to all the helpful advice on here) using a popcorn popper, but also bought a few kilos of green beans to with which to experiment  through the helpful Andy.

Im happy with the look of the first batch - but will wait the requisite time before throwing it in the Rocky.  For interest, it started as 140 grams of Costa Rican Tarrazu.

    Cheers all.

    Zaphod.
