Re: 11 minute unmod popper roast
Lucky devils. On my popper, 2-1/2 to 3 minutes gives a medium roast. 4 minutes and the beans are dark and starting to get an oily look about them.
I roast 100 gramme batches and the popper has a chimney.

Re: 11 minute unmod popper roast
Hi RH,
With my Soup-tin chimney modded Mistral Popper, I have to roast batches in the 150 gram+ range, otherwise the roasts stretch out a bit too long. Maybe you should try to increase your batch size a smidgen if youd like to shorten the roasts a bit. That being said, an 11 minute roast is not excessive though, and is even desirable in some ways to increase the level of control you have over the roast profile.
In mid Summer, my roasts average around the 8-9 minute mark but as the weather is cooling down a bit now these times are starting to stretch out a little to just over 10 minutes. The large bean size of the Maragogype probably does affect the roast time though, and the longer roast times are probably helpful to ensure that you achieve an even roast through the entire bean cross-section. I guess cupping is the best way to determine what is the best way to roast these beans so a bit of experimentation might be in order
,
Cheers,
Mal.

11 minute unmod popper roast
Is this unusual or what?
11 minutes with 100 grams of maragogype... I wonder if the larger bean size contributed to the long roast?
I stopped just before second crack- a nice dark brown
Has anyone else had varying roast times with different types? :-?Tags: None
