I went today and brought the torque screw driver set so I could get into the electrical parts of my Imex that the well meaning manufacturers would obviously rather I kept away from.
My Imex developed a disturbing rattle after I dropped it on it’s head. I was taking something else out of the cupboard and the Imex was dragged out also and fell the 45 cm onto short carpet. Not enough to cushion the fall apparently.
I undid the screws to see what the rattle was and if it was repairable. Glad I spent $10 on screw drivers rather than $35 on a small appliance repairer’s opinion.
I was sad to see that the motor of the Imex is mounted onto what appears to be some sort of Bakelite or similar. It would appear to be brittle (like bakelite) and about 2mm thick. The best way I could describe the mounting is that it’s like a bit of veneer with a hole cut in it for the whirly bits/motor to stick through.
I’m pretty sure that I’ve tried to superglue bakelite together in the past without much success. I’m not sure how it would go in a hot environment in any case or if I want possible contamination (like super-hard-coated coffee beans) in my brew.
If anyone has ideas on how to attempt to fix it I’m happy to be a guinea pig and let you know how it turned out, but I’m at a bit of a loss as how I might do it. For the visual types amongst you I’ve attached a pic (well I think I have, let me know if I havent). That’s not the only snapped bit, I appear to have done the job well and there seems to be about 3 other bits that were floating around in there that dropped out when I unscrewed it.
Looks like I’ll be after the Vitali Group $110 special. From what I’ve been reading the $110 price it not exactly straight forward in sorting out? Anyone’s experience on that one?
