  • 660 grams in a Coretto.

Up to this point the largest successful roast Ive done in my Coretto was 625 grams.
Pulled out a bag of Columbian Volcan Galeras Supremo greens a few days ago and found I had 660 grams left so thought why not give it a go.
Set everything up and 19 mins later I had another nice evenly roasted batch of beans (approx) CS9.
My single loaf Breville based Coretto never ceases to amaze me, I suspect I could roast 700 grams in it without a problem.

Still prefer the 1KG I can do in my BBQ drum ;-)

I do 750grams in my corretto as my base roast. I only drop to a lower amount if im not going to ge around much to drink for the preceeding two weeks.

Interesting, what type of heat gun are you using?

I started with the Bunnings Ozito HG but it only lasted a couple of roasts and was returned under warranty (it lost heat). I decided against getting another cheap one and picked up the Makita HG6020, which was expensive but hopefully (fingers crossed) will last alot longer.

As for 750gram roasts I never even thought about it, being alot to roast or stretching the capabilities of the corretto.

Variable temp and fan speed are certainly the way to go, saves having to raise/lower the gun to vary temp.
Ive had a Bosch 630E for many years, done hundreds of hours stripping paint and still going strong as my roasting heat source.
There has been quite a bit of discussion re roasting quantities in a single loaf Coretto, I started with 300 grams and have gradually increased amounts up to 660 g, my normal roast is 625 g, a weeks supply.

So whats a likely max for Coretto roasting ?

My last roast was 610g and came out fine. Wondering if 1kg is possible.
              Thoughts ?

I hoping improvements to my patent pending heat retention and chaff venting / airflow system might help. (i.e. foil covering the top of the bread maker with strategically placed holes) ;-)

I suspect it would depend very much on the size of the BM pan and your own particular set up.
As I said in my original post have successfully roasted up to 660 grams in mine and I suspect it would handle 700 without any problem, however 625 grams green is a weeks supply for me and I like to roast weekly.
Why not keep increasing the weight of green beans by 10 grams per roast until you approach your machines limit, easy.

As Jon said the size of the pan would be one factor.
Mine used to comfortably do 600gm but when I pushed it to 700gm once I realised that was its limit.

Other factors would include the power of the heatgun and the efficiency of the stirrer.

Re: 660 grams in a Coretto.

Just from what TG and Jon hinted at....

Ive got an older Breville Big Loaf BM that uses a horizontally oriented bread-pan design with two stirring paddles rotating in the same direction.

Using a crudely manufactured lid for the bread-pan and a 2,000W Ryobi Heatgun, I could reliably roast 1.2Kg batches but this was right at the limit of its capability, due to the Heatgun Output. Without a lid fitted, 900g was about its comfortable limit. Incidentally to this though, was my bean cooler which really strains to cool a 1.2Kg (green) batch so that is something else to keep in mind.

                    Cheers
                    Mal.

Similar experience Mal, Ive got a single loaf Breville, single agitator, 2000 watt variable Bosch HG and a lid that approx 2/3 covers the pan.
As I said in my earlier post, have roasted 700 grams without problem (roughly half of your batch size) however I reckon it was pretty well at its limit.
