  • Melty popcorn makers...

    Hi All,

New to this roasting malarkey, Id just like to say if you have a popcorn maker like mine with a clear polycarbonate/plastic lid (which would normally direct popcorn out sideways and down), it melts at coffee roasting temperatures.  Im sure lots of you are aware of it, but I wasnt.  I did wonder why people were putting silly tins on theirs, now I know   :
My search term for melt only talked about chocolate and thermocouples and bakerlite

Oh, I should add before someone says "photo or ban", Ill post the damage later on, but the roast was very sucessful, stopped it during the second crack around 7 minutes (100 grams).
Mine is identical to the below. Cant remember where I bought it from, it was when we lived in pommy land.

Mine doesnt have a silly tin; its got a stainless steel exhaust pipe piece custom cut to fit.

That would most likely make it the Veneziano S1 of popcorn roasters.   ;D

Damage done... settled on 100g per roast, take about 8 minutes for rolling 2nd crack.  Any more coffee beans and I get an uneven roast. I cut a little Ned Kelly style chute on the top of a tall wasabi peanut tin that works a treat.
