    Sorry, missed that.
Was going by the thread title and the discount notice on the Aldi one.
Agree $29 from K-Mart looks like a bargain (sight unseen).

Okay, at the risk of OT as the heading is Aldi.....

        She works great.

First one that I have had that you had to use the pulse at the start but as with others, dont really see a problem in the very early stages.

Did 300gm of Yemen as that is the bean that can slip out of the Behmor and it came up looking really nice. Find out in about 5 days time.

All in all, 20 minute cycle is plenty for a small roast and the agitation is certainly adequate.

As Ken has suggested, Im also heading back to K-Mart for another @ $29 to leave in the garage as a spare. ;D

Cos I need another roaster..... :

Glad you like it  Chris.....l reckon theyre great value too and am heading over today to get another ( didnt make it the other day ).
Also l find that because you have to turn the bread pan to get it out , if you forget about the temp probe there is no harm done as the pan wont turn and you cant apply much force before you realize that its still in

          Cheers ken

            hey guys,

I am new to roasting and just about to pick up an "as new" 2nd hand Breville Bratz Popcorn maker for 20 bucks.

however, your discussion makes me think that buying the breadmaker form kmart might be the better option.
I would need a heatgun as well, right?

What is your advice, should I start with the 20 buck popper first, or go for the breadmaker?

            Thanks a lot!

ps can you guys recommend a "forgiving" green bean from beanbay?
            :-?

Re: Aldi special buy 16/09 - build a corretto for $70!

Hey werner, it all depends on how much you want to spend....personally ld go the BM as you can do decent size roasts in em.
lf you go the BM route  youll need a HG and some sort of stand to mount it on...l built an Hinged swivelling arm out of some leftover timber and mounted it on my workbench via some dowell so it swivels around ( easy to move out of the way when getting the pan out of the BM )....The HG is just cable tied to a small piece of timber bolted to the end of the "arm " also my HG is a variable temp makita ( nice HG ) .
If you can afford it get the DMM off Andy here @ Beanbay as you can watch what the bean mass is doing heat wise..........but if you cant , just go by eye

l got the "starter " pack off here , plus a 2.5kg of yirg ........havent had any problems so far roasting em , l reckon get the SP is good way to go

Plenty of people use poppers also......very cheap way to get going

Hope that helps ( from my limited knowlege )

              Cheers Ken

Re: Aldi special buy 16/09 - build a corretto for $70!

                Go the popper.
$20 is a cheap start and you learn a lot by using one.

When you are ready you can move on to a corretto and put what youve learned into bigger batches.

You will probably need to do some modifications to the popper but they are mostly cheap or free.

A corretto on the other hand involves more start-up costs and you risk bigger batches of green beans as you learn.

                The choice is yours.

                  Thanks both of you.

I think the advice on keeping batch sizes small makes sense to me...so the popper it is for now.
I just placed a bean bay order, the popper will be picked up tonight....time to shop for a tapered can of salmon I guess

                  thanks!

For another $20 you can get a custom fitted stainless steel muffler extension like mine.

apparently the popper is purple (shiver, advertised as a big plus), not sure how good a macho muffler looks on that ;D

I actually found a tapered salmon can in the pantry???!!! I NEVER eat that stuff, cannot remember when I bought it...at the super market an inner voice must have taken over: "Yes, you do not want to eat it...buy it anyway, just trust me... you need it one day"

Id seen someone else noted K-mart clearing out their Homemaker bread makers for $29, so I made sure I took note when wandering through my local store yesterday afternoon...sure enough, piles of them clearing out for $29.

Anyone know if the Homemaker BM has the attributes required to make a corretto?Specifically, does it have a dough setting that will just mix for the required time?Im not technical enough to be doing mods to the circuitry!
Just picked a Homemaker BM at KMart Warwick WA today for $20. I was in the shop for something else and thought Id have a look before I headed to Cash Converters looking for used BM.
Tomorrow Ill give it a go if all goes well the trusty Brevelle popcorn maker will be passed on to a new home.

Good thing you didnt waste your time at Cash Convertors. They hardly ever have used bread makers. I found one which had buggered bearings, so i left that one alone.
As jyo mentioned before, we dont have Aldi in WA.
If anyone needs a cheap used breadmaker, try the Quokka papers.
The Brevilles have a 20+minutes mixing cycle.
