Very true. I think it was more the level of roast tho.
Tried roasting a bit darker. It turned out to be lot darker than anticipated. The grind setting had to be turned back up to 13.. I did enjoy the lighter roast however. Something different. I suppose wasting couple of shots here and there to get the right setting isnt such a bad thing

Grind settings can fluctuate wildly with the variety, roast, age of beans and ambiant atmosphere.

Quite often my Iberital grinder goes off the scale. If you like consistency, you can at least control some of the variables by using the same variety all the time, and roasting to the same degree.

Sometimes really, really fresh coffee needs to be ground really, really finely.

    I wouldnt worry about it.

The level of roast as well as the ambient humidity can have a major impact on grind/extraction times.

    Beans and extraction time

    Hi,

Has anyone noticed huge differences in extraction time with different variety of beans/roast?

I have just roasted some Costa Rica beans and decided to try medium/dark roast. I was surprised that my normal grind setting of 11 on my Rocky wasnt fine enough and I had to pull it down 5 notches to 6

I usually get slight variances between different beans but never this much. Maybe its the level of Roast?

Working...
