Re: Gambella Sundried - the elusive 2nd crack ?
Ive only really stuffed up 1 roast on mine so far which was my very first
Ive also foudn these to be really slow to get going as well, FC seems to take longer with mine as well
I usually go about 350g on the 1lb roast using p2/b or p2/c - I find that p2/c lets me cool the roast before the last big ramp up on p2
Ive also found that SC really races off once it starts, so dont push it too hard after FC has been and gone, when you nail the roast on it, it does taste lovely though

Ristrom, what were you roasting in and what sort of times/settings did you use.
Cheers

Re: Gambella Sundried - the elusive 2nd crack ?
Its good fun roasting with the Behmor.
I have not gotten around to roasting up the Ethiopian beans but with all of my roast I have been using 225g of beans an the 1/2 or 1 pound settings.
On my first roast I did use the 1 Pound setting and just pressed the cool button when I wanted it just under what I wanted.
It takes a while to cool and can get darker than what you want.
You can play around with the amount of beans that you put in to make it roast faster or slower also.
Im still new to it also and have messed up my last roast.
It is still drinkable but a bit darker than I wanted.

Re: Gambella Sundried - the elusive 2nd crack ?
I roasted this bean for the first time today, actually, and didnt manage to get to 2C.Originally posted by 2F28392A39323F5C0 link=1290553309/0#0 date=1290553309A quick search on this bean in the forums seems to suggest that 2C is fairly elusive.Wondering if anyone has made it to 2C without blasting the beans to CS12 and beyond.
Ended with a lovely CS8 and looking forward to trying it in 3-4 days.
Next time i roast it ill try a different roast profile in an attempt to take it closer to 2C.

Re: Gambella Sundried - the elusive 2nd crack ?
Hahaha I had a terrible time with this bean
Im sure I went to 2nd crack... and nearly to a fire o_O I guess the taste of that coffee is rather different to that of a "brief brush" with 2c

Gambella Sundried - the elusive 2nd crack ?
Had a couple of goes with these Ethiopian beans in my new Behmor. First was a cock up with a woefully underroasted CS5-6. I was roasting 250g on 1/2, P2, B. Got to first crack but the roast stopped before 1C was done.
Second attempt was heaps better. This time I used 250g on 1/2, P3, D and added 20 secs for a total roast time of 15:20. Got to 1C at 13:35 but no sign of 2C.
A quick search on this bean in the forums seems to suggest that 2C is fairly elusive. Wondering if anyone has made it to 2C without blasting the beans to CS12 and beyond.
Flavour is pretty good on the my second roast but I am curious as to what other characteristics might emerge from a brief brush with 2C.
