  • first "roast"

    hey all,

im not sure if you could call this roasting, but ive just fried up 200 grams of Indian Mysore Nuggets A in a large wok on the wok-burner attachment of my bbq!

A little inconsistent in terms of colour (few beans ended up a little black) but I was happy with the results, an audible first crack at 7 minutes, second at 16, cooled down by 21.

Any tips for a complete newbie? Ive got them sitting in a bag with one of the little air values. How long should I leave them before grinding and brewing?

    Cheers,

    Mike

MikeK- Sounds like youre doing well already- when you said "FRIED" I though- OH Oh here we go- but with a definite first and second crack and the timing- so perfect- I reckon youve got a great bunch a beans. Now- as for when to grind. I normally wait 48 hours- I say normally because I remember my first roast- I just roasted and ground them straight away! And it tasted great to me- at least compared to the rubbish out there!
I would recommmend normally waiting 48 hours to a few days BUT why not do a little sample taste every 8 to 10 hours so that you can taste it developing... then you can be your own authority on the subject.
What is your brewing equipment like?

id like to think its pretty decent...

ecm giotto classic and an isomac granmaccinio (which is currently not working very well, so am resorting to the old hand-cranked, which spits out a good grind anyway)
