Re: Yemen Mocha Haimi & Behmor

What profile/settings did you use? Ive just done a 225g batch of the Mocha ismaili on P1. (1C at 9:20 - 10:30 elapsed, then cooled at the start of 2C 1:15 after the end of 1C). Came out fairly even looking.
Im not sure how best to approach these yemen beans - Ive read some sources that suggest that the yemens need aggressive heat (i.e. P1) and other sources saying drag out the time to 1C which to me suggests more of a P3,4 or 5 profile. Guess Ill try both approaches and see which I like best..

Havent tried this Yemen before sp so will be interesting to read your thoughts after youve had a chance to sample a brew... 8-)

By the way, reduced the size of your image file; a bit too big mate. If you can keep the file size to around 100KB and a frame size of 800x600 that would be great...

    Cheers,
    Mal.

started a topic Yemen Mocha Haimi & Behmor

    Yemen Mocha Haimi & Behmor

This is my first Yemen that I picked up from the most recent BayBean.

I found that these beans were quite small and there was also a considerable percentage of beans that were crushed (lots of quarter and half beans in the bag).

I loaded up the Behmors drum and shook it about to get rid of the shards of beans that would have fell through during the roast. In stead of throwing these away, I chucked it in a pan and used a wooden spoon to roast them the old fashioned way.

It was pretty uneven, but it smells quite similar to the Ethiopian Gambella and Ghimbi. The Ethopian beans had an odd scent to them, but turned out quite chocolately and was beautiful in the cup. I assume the Yemen will be quite similar because it has that odd scent to it.

Ive got another batch of dodgy yemen beans and will have another crack at pan roasting later this week (i sifted through the whole 2.5 kilo bag and collected all the small bits).

I thought Id post this for anyone else who ordered the Yemen beans with the intention of roasting it in a Behmor.

Working...
