My first attempts at roasting this bean have been less than successful.
I played it pretty conservatively using only two cups and applying my standard heat gun colander technique which has served me well for other varieties at up to 4 cups per batch.
The main problem seems to be in the huge variance in sizes of the beans which meant that the smaller beans were starting to burn before the larger ones were near ready.
Anticipating this problem I slowed things down as much as I could, (time to first crack was over 10 minutes, maybe 15) but the end result was still very uneven and suited only to an "accent" bean in a milder blend.
Normally Id just rip off a few more but as this a premium bean Id like to hear of any suggestions or experiences before I possibly waste anymore.
On a side note Im getting closer to going the BBQ drum route with every roast, the heat gun is a great cheap option but its becoming more of a task than a hobby.
thanks for any help
Maurice
