Yep, that colour differential was on my mind. Cupping Room thread is really good, as soon as the grinder arrives, we will have ourselves a ball game - or perhaps a bean game ;D

Remember to keep in mind that the colors you see on your monitor or on your print out of the bean color chart you downloaded will be different from how the original chart looks in person. Every monitor and printer will yield different apparent colors when viewing the same picture.

Re: How do you know which roast profile for bean t
Gday Polly,
Check out the cupping room thread. A lot of people put their roast times and methods in when they reveiw a coffee.
In regards to incinerating your starter pack, its probably a good idea to completely nuke 1 or 2 small roasts, just to see how the beans react to different heat levels and times, and getting to know the differences between 1st crack and 2nd crack.
The sweet marias site has a lot of cupping notes and roasting types. They use common US terms like city, city+, vienna, etc. Youll be able to match these terms with the colour chart from their site.
The bottom line is, there is no one profile which suits every bean type, as were all different and have different tastes. The right profile is the one that tastes good to you
Good luck with it.

How do you know which roast profile for bean type
Howdy,
Is there a previous thread, or can CSers comment on whether there is a rule-of-thumb roasting profile for types of beans? Since reading about how the colombians respond best to a light roast, I would like to find out (before incinerating my starter pack :P ) how to approach the different beans. Ive downloaded a bean colour chart from Sweet Marias and would like to know how that relates to types. Il be heat gunning, if that makes a difference.
Thankz yall
Polly
