Ive been roasting quite a few batches now and I thought I was getting used to the roast times in the popper.
Tonight I roasted two different beans from the latest poll, the Sumatran Mandheling and the Peru Chanchamayo and I couldnt tell whether I was at first or second crack...
My roasts normally take about 6 minutes, but this time from 4 minutes the beans continually cracked for a minute and started looking quite dark. When I stopped the roast I had some dark and some light beans. This happened for both roasts.
I am wondering if it is due to too many beans in the popper (150g)? I have been doing 120-150 and not had the problem before.
I ground a blend of the two up along with some panamarian & mogiana I had and it tasted good. I could taste that at least some of the beans were probably just after first crack.
I might go looking for a cooler popper so my roasts actually pass the 5 minute mark.
