Re: Gimme!
Ive been looking at the 1lb roaster there for some time now but havent been able to find all that much info from end-users on it yet. Theres some better pictures of it here: http://www.bleepyou.com/roaster/
Ive written the manufacturer of the roaster direct (theyre made in Israel) and was told Id have to buy them from the local distributor. *sigh* No discount buying direct from the manufacturer. >
Im curious how well the front design works on them. While Ive run accross reports that the heating element is too small (its a standard size/type element thats easily replaced with a higher wattage coil) Ive not seen a single comment on how the front assembly on it works in practical use.
Ive also run accross comments complaining about its ability to handle chaff. Comments have been few and far between on it though so its hard to say exactly how itd operate.
Java "Id be happy to test that roaster for you Sir!" phileToys! I must have new toys!!!

Re: Gimme!
Chris,
Who is handling them here in Australia, anyone you know? That would be perfect, an industrial model built down for the home user. Id seriously consider one.

Re: Gimme!
Did you guys notice how much they cost? $1495 US plus $260 US (slightly more but not sure how much more) postage plus 5% duty... quick rough calculation...$1842.75 US or $2393.18 Youve got to pick them up from your nearest international airport too. I think they roast between 500 and 800g
Dont get me wrong the idea and the design really appeals to me. If they roasted up to 2kg Id be a bit more enthusiastic. I emailed the seller a few weeks back and he was responsive and mentioned having shipped to Australia in the past with no dramas.
If only they were slightly cheaper or roasted a bit more per batch...

Re: Gimme!
Maybe if the exchange rate improves... significantly. Being a touch it before I buy it" person, Id want to be looking at one in the flesh before I sent the best part of three grand to a postal address in th US.
I wonder if its any cheaper to visit, test it, buy it and bring it back second hand? ;D
Boris.

Re: Gimme!
The company that builds these great looking electric roasters is happy to talk turkey with us if we are ordering a few at a time.
Im not allowed to mention specific prices but we might be looking at about AU$2000 for the smallest one to your door (500gm-800gm model).
The 1kg one would be double that and the 2.5kg one would be about AU$6k.
Who here would be in the market for one using those prices as a guide?
???

Re: Gimme!
The price doesnt frighten me off too much at this stage.
Need to see a lot more info on its specs and operation though. Are you able to get a PDF manual or similar? Ive added a poll to let people day dream a bit.
One downside I see is that the beans are cooled in the same drum as they are roasted. I cant see how that allows the beans to be cooled at any reasonable rate and suggests a steep learning curve to avoid the roast going too far.
Oh and here is their web site: http://www.coffee-tech.com/
Cheers

Re: Gimme!
The poll is a good idea, ta.
I noticed that too but its not the case in the bigger models (2.5kg Artigiano). One downside I see is that the beans are cooled in the same drum as they are roasted. I cant see how that allows the beans to be cooled at any reasonable rate and suggests a steep learning curve to avoid the roast going too far.
More to the point of cooling is the fact that if you a doing a second roast then you are starting from scratch again.
Maybe with enough interest we can all chip-in and get one shipped-out for testing.
Did someone say CoffeeSnobs $100 raffle tickets? ;D
