Re: writing a coffee article, need your help

Being an ex-Qlder I have arranged with relatives to get a copy of the article on SO beans sent over - Id love to see the West Aussie do a story on good beans as well.

Actually, in this same section Good Life, on Tuesday there was a good article on single origin beans (in the printed version of the paper).

However there doesnt appear to be a link to it online that I can find :-(

    Unfortunate.

    A great job Xab,
    Welcome to the fold!
Articles like yours will free thousands from the shackles of mediocrity and thrust them head first into the realm of the gourmand.
Then they will vote the write(sorry) way and we will in turn free ourselves from the burden of economic rationalism and our kids will all tear up their AWAs, unite with pride and go on to live productive, happy lives.
    Congrats.

I would like to thank Xabitha for having the decency to post comments after the article was written as well. It gives some insight to your character for being prepared to defend what you had written, and the manner in which you went about it. It would have been easy for you to have gotten your information and run and just ignored what everyone in here thought of you. So thanks for being prepared to listen to what evryone had to say and also put input in. I am sure we all know the pressure of the boss on our backs with deadlines and the like it is just unfortunate that your work is criticised by a larger audience than most. In a perfect world we would all be able to have our ideals met in our job but as you pointed out it is simply not the case. Someone else dictates the reality of jobs whilst ever we work for someone.
It has certainly created a hot topic around here so you know people are reading yoru work.

    xab,

Then that just reinforces my thoughts on journalism in general... "Take everything you read/\/watch with a grain a salt" and read between the lines...

Thanks for clearing that up xab... I was suprised that it isnt allowed... but really... I shouldnt be....

For the record, your article was excellent - especially considering your work place limitations... Well done..! :-)

All very interesting comments on my comments, thanks. I totally take my mistakes on board and accept them.
    As for someone who wrote..

"If you intend to write an article about people (which is what you did, did you not?), then it should be a wise thing for the people to proof read it also before publishing yeh??? "

That is exactly what I thought when I first became a journalist, however, most papers and magazines dont allow it, as ultimately, the journalists work is at the mercy of the sub-editor. If the journalist lets the subject read the piece (which naturally enough many want to do) and the sub editor cuts something or changes something, the subject who OKed it, if they find themselves caught in a backlash or something can then take legal action, saying the piece that was looked over and approved was not the one that appeared, even if its a matter of cutting a few words. Its a sackable offense in many work places.

I understand she didnt have the luxury of time to do that.
    Then dont publish it... Simple...
    Not her decision.
