  • Stainless collander for heat gun roasts?

    I have a big one.

    It is full of holes.

Some of the heat may go out the bottom.

    Is is suitable.

    Cheers

    ozscott...

Mmmmm.... methinks a SS dog bowl is better... it has a flat bottom (stays where its put leaving one hand free to stir and the other to operate the heatgun).

And yep, Id think you could loose quite a bit of heat and air through the holes... making it less like a fluid bed roaster.

Ozscott, I use a biggish SS colander inside a SS bowl - it seems to retain the heat a little better, more importantly a lot of chaff and the occasional stone fall through the holes. Heres my setup:

And this is what fell was left in the bowl at the end:

The teatowel stops the bowl from moving during the roast, then stops me burning my fingers at the end. And yes, that is now a dedicated coffee roasting whisk - I cant get it clean anymore.....

Would think you get pretty sore arms after few batches of roasting, or maybe its just good excersise while having fun:P

              Oh I dunno CK,

A young bloke like you should be able stir at hyper-speed for a 30 minute roast.... no worries

              Mal.

30 minutes? Youd surely have tennis elbow after that.

Havent had to stir a roast for 30 minutes yet, but I dont whisk the beans that fast. It isnt like whisking 10 egg whites at work because the Kitchen Aid is on the blink - that hurts.....
