    $9.99 USD.  Im in US and was fortunate to get free shipping.

    Might be worth the time to get a shipping quote to AUS.  Who knows, maybe you could team up and buy several.  Its a great price and has been tried and tested at the coffeegeek website, which is linked on the above page.

    Also you may try hardware stores since many digital voltmeters have thermocouples included.

      Thanks for that I will wait a little while to see if Andy finds some more of the Thermocouples to sell. If they do not reappear I will contact the company [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

        Re: Temperature measuring device

        Stan,. Ill be needing one too. So perhaps we could have two shipped together. They would weigh very little and it will probably cost $11USD shipping via US Global Priorty bag.

        EDITED TO ADD: I have emailed the company to make initial enquiries about shipping to Australia via US Global Priority bag. I have also asked how many of these items could be shipped in the smallest Global Priority bag (and staying within the weight limit of course), in case there might be a couple of other people interested...which will cut the costs down some more. I think this is a great price for one of these in anycase,.. and with the Aussie dollar so strong these days the conversion is just;
        10.00 USD = 10.7582 AUD
        United States Dollars Australia Dollars
        1 USD = 1.07582 AUD 1 AUD = 0.929521 USD

        Thanks Chad for the heads up!!

          Re: Temperature measuring device

          Great link! I just ordered 3 of these for use in the Gothot. At that price I couldnt resist!

          The first order of business once they arrive will be to see if the probes are bendable. Hopefully they will be as otherwise fitting them to the Gothot will be a major PITA. Once theyre shown to be bendable then the real fun begins. Trying to figure out the best way to mount them!

          One mod I will do to them immediately will be to cut the plugs off and solder the leads directly to the board. This should help eliminate some of the variance in its readings and yield very repeatable results with them. I also plan on calibrating them by running them all in the same environment over a range of temperatures.

                  Re: Temperature measuring device

                  I got a reply back from the company and boy have things changed in the last few years with regards to shipping rates/ways from the US to Aus.  I used to have much of my supplies over several years (probably about 60+ times)shipped via USPS Global Priority bag for $11USD. Now it seems USPS shipping has gone through the roof,.making it a less attractive option to buy from the US these days   .

                  NOTE: dont even consider shipping via the highlighted way....it will go straight to our Customs office and you will receive a phone call asking you to pay Customs proscessing fees and any taxes on the items purchased OS.  This route by circumstance will also delay the shipping time to you considerably.  It took three weeks before I got the customs phone call, another week for them to process it and send it on to me. According to Customs staff, this all happens because FEDEX is a private company and having it sent via USPS (United States Postal Service)would go straight to your door within the 5 day period promised usually.

                  Here is the reply;

                  Hello Remy,
                  I am not sure what “bag” you are referring to.  We have some padded/bubble envelopes we use and we can fit 3 units in one of those weighing 2 lbs.  The cost for shipping this through USPS, going Express Mail International is $32.00.  To ship this FedEx, it would be $50.10 for Priority and $44.02 for Economy.  If I were to ship one unit to you it would go First-Class International (no tracking, no insurance) and cost $8.65.

                  Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Ill be happy to help. Thanks.

                  Best regards,
                  D#### L#####

                  So, it  looks like ordering seperately might actually be the best way in this case. (when you consider extra shipping to purchasers within Aus)

                  This would work out to be $18.60 USD = $19.9642 AUD for unit and shipping.... its still a good price.

                  EDITED TO ADD: Just cross posted with Andy. Great to hear the Coffee Snobs preferred unit and software will be available again soon.... whoot!! I think I can wait for that one!!!!

                    Re: Temperature measuring device

                    If you can hang out for the QMxxxx Data Logging DMM, this is a much better option than a simple thermometer. The thermometers might be handy for instantaneous "spot checks" though.....

                      I agree,.Id prefer the Data Logging capability, so Ill wait for these to become available again in Beanbay. I dunno.. guess its my inner nerd,.. 8-)

                      I just think it would be really handy to be able to log the roasts, and occasionally plot them on graphs for fun and/or easier CS analysis when youre after advice about your roasts. Logging would certainly speed up the process of being able to achieve good roasts consistantly I would imagine.. simply because itll take out any of the guesswork about how the roast progressed and the information is all there for you to learn from.

                      The other advantage is that other CSrs are using the same bit of kit (or close cousin) and this purpose built software for CSrs,..so we already have a little network of people who know how it all works and no doubt would jump in to answer Qs and help troubleshoot anything.

                          I bought a multimeter last week from Jaycar - $14 it comes with a temperature probe and seems to work very well - pretty happy with it - jaycar staff are nerdy tech propellor heads so theyd be only too happy to assist.
                          Good luck.

                            I will wait as the one Andy sells can be used with the soft ware to create nice nerdy graphs - which I will be able to generate once I learnt to use a computer better that I can Skydive. and I havent even looked at that yet. :

                              yeah and we can do overlayed graph comparisons..and, and,... competitions where we all have to try and hit the same perfect profile (pre-determined and graphed of course) for the same bean... and the one who gets the closest to the Competition Graph receives a small but honourable title something like;...The Supreme Nerd Master, His Excellent Immensity, Crown Prince *insert name*. The Superior Vanquisher of Coffee Snobs Roasters and Prestigious Ruler of Coffee Snobdom.

                              But,.. at the risk of coming across as a little nerdy myself,  :...is that something we could really do I wonder.  :-/

                                First I read that you were actually thinking of using a coffee machine to make tea now you wish to create a competition that would bring out the nerd in all of us. Nothing like a competition to make people try foolish but enlightening pastimes :question

                                Maybe you have something there even if you did consider debasing/defiling a COFFEE Machine by making tea.
