Re: Home Roasting = no roaster
Yea it was also outside on a chair
Sunlight may have also made them lighter as well as shine from surface oil
Or the yellow colander may have added reflected colour
When I hold a handful the difference on both sides is not noticeable

Re: Home Roasting = no roaster
Hi KK,
look pretty good -- no singeing :P What CS number would you say?
Tho is it just my monitor (or the camera), or does there appear to be 2 colors of beans here -- to me half the beans look lighter than the other half?

Re: Home Roasting = no roaster
I just went out and also did a roast of some Mexican Organic coffee beans
Using the pot on gas flame method. Just to see if I still had the gift
Here is a picture of the final result taken 10 minutes after cooling to room temp
Edit
The roast looks a little lighter in the pic due to the flash
It looks a little darker to the naked eye

preferrably leave 2 to 3 days before drinking if possible as they need time to degass and for flavours to develop.
If you sample shots at different days you will be able to follow the changes in flavour and aroma

Re: Home Roasting = no roaster
Well you should let them cool for at least a couple of minutes before storing them...dont want to melt anything! I generally bag them about 5 minutes post roast. One-way valved bags are the best but ziplock can also work. Do a search of this site for "storing/storage" and youll find plenty of info.Originally posted by island girl link=1218244440/0#2 date=1218247259Thanks KK,
One more question. Should I wait till they cool before putting in container.
Once again thanks for the advice.

Re: Home Roasting = no roaster
I have done it on a gas burner
Bring a 1 to 1.5 lt pot it up to heat Cast iron pot is preferable (it won’t work as well in a wide pan)
Add 300gr green beans
Stir slowly and constantly without stoping with a whisk
Try for 1st crack at 10 - 12 minutes
A short time later it will start to smoke and crack again for the second time
Take off the heat at this point and continue to stir while beans are still popping and roast colour is right
Cool in 2 colanders and use a fan to blow away the chaff
Hope it helps
But do it outside the house
