  • Re: Whats in my coffee roaster this week

Nothing again this week for 2 months straight :-[

Stupid season is coming to an end and nearly time to dust off the Hottop and see what is in the stash again. Tried and made so many types of commercially roasted coffee I hope I can live up to it still.

Beautiful day for a roast today; not like a couple of weeks ago :

Another Ethiopian blend of sorts and a very yummy one, from note references of old....

      PNG Kinjibi Peaberry - 350g
      Ethiopia Ghimbi - 250g
      India Bababudangiris Robusta - 100g

Taken to CS9-ish, to the first few snaps of 2nd-Crack in the Behmor; 2 x 350g batches. Settings - 1lb, P3, C; door cracked opened just before the end of Rolling 1st-Crack and left open until the first few snaps of 2nd-Crack could be heard then hit the Cool Button.

      Weight Loss - 16.7%

Another goodn to look forward to 8-)

      Mal.

Managed to fit in quite a bit of roasting this past week.

625g done of each of these all with a profile roughly the same as the pic.

PNG Wahgi pulled 15 secs into second crack
Sulawesi rante kapua torajah pulled 30 secs into second crack
Mexico yeni navan pulled with a snap of second crack as pulled it
Ghimbi pulled on the first second crack
Limmu pulled 30 secs into second crack
El Salvador chapparistique pulled 30 secs into second crack

This week its a pre- blend of 200gm Columbian Excelso
          200gm Kenyan Peaberry
          200gm Indonesian Goya
Roasted in the coretto with the Bosch 630 on 490 deg celcius initial setting.
          First crack at 12 min.
Turned gun down to 430 deg cel for a 2-3 deg cel rise per minute.
          Second crack at 17.5 min.
Pulled beans off 25 seconds at cusp of rolling second crack.
          Looks like C9.
Newly built bean cooler cooled them down in 1 minute.
Will let this one rest for at least 3 days before cupping.

PS. I found the PNG Waghi and El Salvador an easy bean to roast Denki.

yeah they didnt seem to pose too many troubles that i can remember, i havent tried the el salv yet, the png had a nice sweetness to it but very thin in the mouth.

anyway, the other day i did some decaf WOW as per the graph. i was showing a friend the setup, the rolling second crack mark is an error, the whole roast was pulled before getting to second crack. also my memory of the roast is barely hearing any first cracks either, but i was distracted somewhat. it is a great drink, after 2 nights rest it was all choclatey goodness.

Dont throw it out. You may be able to give it to Charbucks.

Yeah, but that means hanging on to it for 6 months before selling it to them.

My first night roast for a while (outside); way too hot to roast during the day yesterday.

Going for more of a Central American influence this time....

                            Guatemala Huehuetenango - 400g
                            Ethiopia Ghimbi - 200g
                            Monsoon Malabar - 100g

Taken to CS8-9, to the very edge of the start of 2nd-Crack in the Behmor; 2 x 350g batches. Settings - 1lb, P3, C; door cracked opened just before the end of Rolling 1st-Crack and left open until I hit the Cool Button after which the door was fully opened. Will try to leave for 7-10 days before cracking open but.... :

                            Weight Loss - 15.7%

Just love the Huehue as the majority portion of a blend 8-)

Ditto for the Ceja de Selva, but I only did 250g in the little hottop. Final weight 212g, light roast, guessing about cs8 (one day Ill get a cs members card and be more accurate).

Also did 250g monsoon malabar, ended a bit darker than Id like, but putting this one away for ten days before I try it - every time so far, Ive run out just as it was hitting its peak.
