Hi PhilMac, ....I think you mentioned yours did not move around much in one of your posts.....
    Jon
    Hi Jon,
Im not sure it was my idea, but it works well Mine moves a little bit, and I guess I should put a couple of small pieces of wood on the underside parallel to the insides of the bowl which would stop it, but it all works ..... Just dont cover the opening altogether, the chaff needs to get out somewhere and be blown away by the fan.

    Cheers

I did this, drilled a 6mm hole through the plastic part of the BM, then a 3.5mm hole into the Basin, i placed a bit of that stuff you put in brick walls to screw into......cant remember the name of it.....and pushed the probe through that and into the 3.5 mm hole in the basin, it protudes about 15mm into the basin itself.

    Hi PhilMac,
Great pictures. I might try the same way. Just looked at my machine and see where I could maybe press fit the wood piece inset to the oven opening and then attach a larger overlapping piece to rest it on the top frame of the machine forming a lip around the inset piece. I hope that makes sense. This would keep the movement to a minimum, if thats a problem. I think you mentioned yours did not move around much in one of your posts.
Thanks for sharing a great idea.

    Jon

I use the wire bead type, a small tent peg and a piece of timber to hold the peg so that it dangles from the top. The t/c wire is tied to the peg with tie wire and the base of the peg is cut to about 15mm above the base of the BM. The timber also serves to hold some heat in the bowl, but best of all, no drilling required in the BM. I had a picture here somewhere, Ill see if I can find it.

    Cheers.

    Hi Jon ....

If you want the most basic Thermometer with Thermocoupling  ebay has them cheap with a solid probe....This is what I bought , nowhere near as good as the BeanBay ones , but definitely enough for me to get started .....( get the solid probe...xtra$10 )

All of these probes are analog output that are read with a digital device, but maybe by "analog probe" you mean one with just a dial like a candy thermometer? Ive heard that people use them with poppers, so at the worst you can try one out as they are pretty cheap.
Could try one of these "Mal" thermometers.  ;D

    Hi Jon,

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermocouple

That should show what a thermocouple is. But some people might use the terms interchangeably.

    Droshi,
I guess Im a little confused by the terminology.  The usb dmm shows a solid looking probe, but is referred as a thermocouple.  But youre right, I was thinking of a dial indicator as analog.

    Thundergod,
Our Blue Mountains were named for the same reason as yours ..... because they look blue from the distance.  However, we burned off all our eucalyptus trees and planted firs and spruce ..... much prettier.       [smiley=grin.gif]

Sorry guys, not meant to be a gotcha.Walla Walla is an American Indian name.Walla means water and Walla Walla means many waters. We do have a lot of small creeks and rivers as it sits at the base of the Blue Mountains.
Sorry Jon but the Blue Mountains are a range just to the west of Sydney.
Ours are named because the eucalyptus oil in the air gives it a blue tinge.

Some quick research shows that the first overland crossing from the east to the Pacific coast was in 1793.
The Columbia river was discovered from the west coast in 1791.

The first unsuccessful white crossing of our Blue Mountains was attempted in 1789 (1 year after the colony was established).
Looks like we may have named ours Blue about 3 years before you lot.
