    Herbie...

Well hooked in after day 4, getting better on day 6 but I think we were too early.

Roasted some more yesterday to leave for longer and open after day 7 at least.

Anyone else had a similar situation?

    Herbie

Finally roasted some 2 days ago. So easy to roast (I think) and currently tucked away waiting before opening.

Cost Rica Herbie 11 days post roast
    CS8
    doppio espresso

lovely honeylike texture, very smooth with a grapefruit tang at first and then a rich cocoa/caramel hit at front of palate and then lingering aftertaste with a hint of smokiness, a most pleasant experience

Did a 2nd batch and controlled it a little better.

    FC 195 - 208 (10:45-14:00). Still a long time.
SC stared at 213 but got moving at 215 and I pulled it at the verge of rolling. There seems to be a wide band with for both cracks making it a little harder to measure a true gap. Ill wait a week and see how it goes.

    Anyone else find something similar?
Not really but I couldnt pick SC on my roast.

That was a very long FC. I think it went for a while on the roast I did but couldnt measure.

Ill try another roast this weekend and let you know.

What just happened to my Kuza??!!!

1st roast went out of control. There was only a 2 deg gap between FC and SC.

    150 deg. 6:30
    198. 11:45. FC started
    215. 14:45. FC finished
    217. 16:15 SC??!!!!

There was a very long and prnounced FC that lasted almost 20 deg.
I guess I need to back the heat off even more than usual at FC. Anyone else find something similar?

    Agree totally Mr Flynn

4 days I was a bit ho-hum, but at day 7 there was a huge improvement.

Currently drinking the assorted roast technique blend from the pickup day (kind of muddled really) but really keen to attack it again and leave it for 7 days and start from there.

But the Herbie is talking to me... :-/

    Chris

and then there is the Yirg.... :-?

I roasted 300g yesterday at cksyds (thanks Chris and thanks for the donation Andy).
Tried this on Thursday - 4 days post-roast: flat and  rather tasteless

Tried it today as a latte and then a long black: wow- cant wait to try it as a double ristretto later.

Excellent - just as good as Andy suggested. I got strawberry jam with hints of citrus. I think 7 days will see it at its best at the depth I roasted - CS9 (pulled at first sign of 2C).

This is destined to become a favourite. Might have to grab another bag I think   and dont hesitate to order some more Andy.

Trouble is, it will have to go back to back with Yemen Bani Ismail
Hmmm...the tribulations of Coffee Snobbery. If in doubt, the YBI gets preference.

Thanks PB. With a relatively light roast like yours (pulled at SC) I would be tempted to try at 7 days or even sooner. I know its an Ethiop but some do work with a shorter rest (e.g. Yirgachefe)
I will give this a go on the next roast. It was actually opened day 9 as that was when I finished off the previous roast, rather than any other strategy.

I think Kuza will be my next roast too, I am already missing it. Trouble is, it will have to go back to back with Yemen Bani Ismail which I have degassing in the cupboard right now

    Ethiopian Kuza

All I can say is Im glad I got two batches.

This is getting better and better--now it is beautiful and complex, but so well balanced I cant really pick any specific flavours. Now at day 10 it is one of my favourite coffees. I think it still tastes a bit like a great Mocha/Java blend.

This evenings coffee was a 30 ml extraction in 25 seconds, and topped up with 35 ml steamed milk. It lasted 3 swallows. ;D

    Ethiopian Kuza
Corretto roasted with 1st crack at 12mins and pulled at beginning of 2nd crack at 18:30mins.
Opened day 9 and drank through to day 14 in double shot flat whites, piccolo lattes, espressos and ristrettos.

I call this the lolly shop special. Very sweet. A good coffee flavour coupled with notes of strawberry and cream lollies, vanilla and toffee at day 9 and 10 moving through to more orange with vanilla and toffee as the days moved on. Good body. Very long aftertaste.

A very special coffee in my books.

I roasted 300g yesterday at cksyds (thanks Chris and thanks for the donation Andy). I ended up completing the roast by sight and sound as the DMM to laptop connection failed and refused to resume and the TC was dislodged out of the bean mass. I pulled the roast at the beginning of 2C (Im not too good on the sound bit but it was def before rolling 2C).

The result looked good I (and another CSer) thought and relatively even for an Ethiop bean. Im definitely going to try this one on Saturday

Couldnt wait so I cupped it 2 hours later--
Dry aroma: crisp citrus, sweet nutty/caramel aroma
    Wet aroma: rich citrus/caramel notes
Slurping: good body, smooth buttery mouthfeel, heaps of citrus,nutty/caramel notes.
Lingering slightly sharp aftertaste on roof of mouth.
Very enjoyable and can only get better with a bit of degassing!!
