Theres also the option of a bead type probe.

Re: Measuring Bean Temps - Corretto Roaster
Even a cheep system that you can get a probe into the bowl and bean mass that will let you read the temp would be a start...Originally posted by 5B584A4A4E5840390 link=1280683625/2#2 date=1280704141Welcome to CS!
The infra red temp guns dont do to well with this type of application.
A thermocouple temp probe would do a much better job.
As Shawty said the DMM and probe that Andy has for sale in the Bean Bay section is a good deal and does a great job especially when used with the roast monitor software found on this site.

The plug looks like you are from US? Not sure what postage would add.
Location and accuracy are always an issue and remember; what you get is an indicator for YOU. It could be 10 or 15 out to others, but it all depends on where your actually measuring and the mass of the beans....
Looking at ya system, and as it appears to be almost a closed system etc... It almost looks like a early TO system...Originally posted by 4A56545C5E5C5C52390 link=1280683625/0#0 date=1280683625Ive been roasting in my corretto successfully for about a year now by sight mostly. Id like to dial in my roasts a little better and would like to monitor bean temps. Do the ebay Infrared guns do well with with this or is there another method I can use to get accurate bean temp readings with this roasting method?
My roaster...

Appreciate any input!

Re: Measuring Bean Temps - Corretto Roaster
There is a great DMM with temp probe and logging capability for sale in Beanbay.
Just drill a hole in the side of your bowl to insert the solid probe into the bean mass.
Make sure it is always covered by beans and doesnt hit the paddle.
You may be able to find a cheaper DMM elsewhere but this one works perfectly with the software available on this site for logging to a computer.
Well worth the money in my opinion.
P.S.
Does that really class as a corretto. (ie. Breadmaker and heatgun)
Looks good though
