    You guys are awesome, so helpful, thanks.

    I picked up an ozito heat gun, it has two speeds and adjustable temp, I started with the temp adjusted to approx half its capacity, next time I will crank it up a fair bit more. Will probably also look at setting up a proper cover so I can partially cover the roast while its under way to retain some heat in there. I am roasting outside, and if its windy, its harder to maintain temps.

    I need to get a probe for my DMM so I can note temps, my current DMM only has bead probes, they will melt in the roast. Waiting for beanbag to get more data logging dmms, I think I would be better off doing this for consistency than trying to guess the variables.

    With the first roast taking so long, Im sure it wont taste that great. I bagged the roast at room temp and will taste on Tues.

    Looking forward to another roast, maybe today if the rain holds off. My wife was pretty mad that I filled the house with smoke and stench. Even though I roasted in the garage!

    Probably my most loved thing so far, is the fact that I can roast 5-600gm batches in one hit. Impressed.

    Could someone point me to detailed photos of a DMM probe installation? Or take some pics of yours and share? Taa

      What i do with my Bosch heatgun is sticky tape it to the console panel with the nozzle just a tad inside the pan and set it to 490deg. I put beans in when constant mixing occurs. You can preheat the pan at 180 deg celcius during pre-mixing period, then up the heat to 490 once constant mixing starts, then put beans in.

      Id suggest dont use the DMM yet, as you want the simplicity of roasting with a clear mind and less clutter.

      I guess you be drinking lots of coffee til the next time u roast ;D ;D

        For a minute there I thought you were referring to the angle of the heatgun and thinking to myself, "how bloody pedantic."

          Luckily, I organize coffee for the guys at work at 50c/shot. Work machine, my beans and grinder.

          We go through a fair amount. Maybe 6 a day.

          I pulled a shot of my first roast this morning. It def needs more time to rest. I did only roast it on sat arvo after all. Still, it didnt taste too bad. I had thought I burnt it, but it has some acidity and is a little bright, still the taste is in the middle of the tounge, not bad, but too early to drink for sure. Its not as dark as I thought it was.

          No idea when I will have time to roast again, with two little ones, and working all day, weekends are about as good as it gets.

          Very keen to get the data logger set up, with a display, if only to watch the temp as I change variables.

          A for heat gun, I have it setup on a camera tripod, can move it any direction. I think I might change to an adjustable lamp arm though.

          I think I have the bug hahaha

            Preeety difficult to get away for a few days when you have a business to run.

            Heres pedantic, rotating the gun 490 degrees would have the gun pointing in the way if you hung the handle by a hook, nozzle pointing south west, which would burn a nice hole on the console of the breadmaker. ;D ahem...

            If youre keen on the DMM James, have you considered Andys DMM logger and using a pc with the free roasting software.

            I use both a desktop and laptop to store info and to plot roasting progress.

            I recommend that type of kit if youre keen to do it properly.

            Coretto, cooler, pc, DMM, together with scales, diary, wooden spoon for visual sampling, mittens. Done.

            Keep it safe mate.

                    Hi James

                    I just took a look at your website and it looks like your roasting is going great .

                    I noticed on the 7th May your BM stopped mid roast , and you saw an error message .
                    Just in case you havent figured it out yet .... the Breville machines have a heat sensor on the inside. On my machine if I disconected it the thing wouldnt run so I moved it to the other side of the control room ... ie. as far from the heat box as possible. .... never stopped again after that mod .

                    Looks like your enjoying your corretto journey...

                      Good to have a wooden spoon handy, not just to visually sample the beans towards the end of roast but also to stir them if the BM ever stops mixing mid roast next time.

                        I have the same BM. I think I just hit the manual button till knead comes up then press start. Goes slow for about 5-10 minutes then fast. Its been doing the job flawlessly for a while now. Nothing like fresh roasted. I reckon its in its prime for only 2 weeks post roast.
