Hi all, newbie here and only just recently got my hands on a EM6910 + EM0480 second hand for dirt cheap, so decided while Im at it to actually start roasting my own coffee bean. This is for two reasons, firstly cause Im a uni student and do not have a huge disposable income so I wanna save wherever I can, secondly and most importantly it looks like helluva fun!
Ordered my starter pack from Andy on Sunday, shipped on Monday and got here on Tuesday (express post though there was no need cause I live in Melbourne, but got overly exited). Props to Andy on getting my order shipped that quickly! In my pack I got these: Ethiopia Ghimbi, India Elephant Hills Grade A, Peru Ceja de Selva Estate and the Vietnam Son La Arabica.
Rushed off to Kmart/Target and got a popcorn maker from Target, the 900W one, and started roasting the Peru Ceja de Selva Estate. Today is a fairly hot day, but against all odds I decided to give it a go anyways. Stats are as the following, FC at 5.40 and SC at 16.56. Is it common to have such a long wait between FC and SC? I also had it tilting and gave the beans an occasional stir for the first 4 minutes. Took the beans out approximately 5 seconds after I first heard SC, and promptly cooled it.
Overall, VERY happy with my first attempt, and rest it for 2 days and try a cup everyday up to day 8 and see how it goes.
On this note, does anyone know a good way to store freshly roasted beans? I have one way valve bags but seem a waste to go through one every time I roast a little batch (80g).
