Hi everyone
This is my first post on this forum. Been reading everyday here for a while. I have to say this is a very addictive place. Finally ordered and received the Behmor. Very fast delivery! Thanks Andy.
Tried my first attempt at home roasting today with the Peru beans. I used a small batch of 75g to start with, just to get to know the machine without wasting too much.
set on 1/4lb P3 C, heard the onset of first crack when 2.5min left. Just when I was vigilantly watching the machine, my MOBILE RANG! Totally distracted and ended the roast while probably still in 1st crack. Couldnt help tasting it just in a few hours - very sour and grassy.
Second try I preheated the machine for 2 min before putting in the beans. still 75g, same setting as above. 1st crack lasted about 1 min and continued onto what i believe was second crack. I did open the door upon 1c to slow it down, but didnt seem to work. Hit cool after 10seconds into 2c, and noticed some smoke coming out of the slightly opened door. More darker compared to 1st batch. But quite uneven looking.
3rd batch of 75g I switched to P2 setting. Programmed total time is 10min. Very strange that the 1st crack occurred almost at 5.30min remaining. Opened door slightly to prolong the 1c2c interval, still no effect, went straight into 2c. Quite a bit of smoke coming out. Had to hit cool. Even darker roast. But again looked uneven.
My question: Is 75g batch too small to roast evenly and to achieve a good 1c-2c interval?
sorry I havent got the CS card as reference for the pictures.
