Installing the thermocouple into the Behmor

Can anyone tell me which probe to use for the Behmor? Or importantly if more than one option which gives the best results. Also are the installation instructions still the same as on the roastmonitor software download thread? I'm planning to buy a Behmor and have the roastmonitor USB temperature data logger with the 100mm probe I'm been using with my current breadmaker set up, basically need to know if I need to purchase anything extra?Last edited by broodbox; 12 February 2013, 05:31 PM.

Re: Installing the thermocouple into the Behmor
Hi Tim,
I found 3mm too small too and just used 4mm all the way through.

re:#1
Hmmm... I can see your problem. The template was for a different probe. Ill update that. You would be better off with the inside hole larger than the probe so the internal wall doesnt act as a heatsink.
re:#2
All the way in.
Its only the end of the probe that reads temperature but if everyone does the same then the readings will be similar.
re:#3
Rust? I doubt it unless you planned on washing it in the dishwasher (joke! Dont do it!!!)
re:#4
Using a larger drill bit in your fingers you should be able to twist it from the inside of the roaster to remove the burrs. If you were building these then you would use a "deburring tool" but an oversized (sharp) drill bit will work fine and wont remove the gal-coating like a file will.
phew... so many questions!

Installing the thermocouple into the Behmor
So, Ive decided to void my warranty already
and have drilled into the Behmor to install the thermocouple. I have limited experience in this sort of thing and have a couple of questions.
Firstly, I followed Andys instructions re: size of drill bits and found that I had to up each bit by 1mm. The thermocouple sits extremely snug on the inside hole, to the point where it kind of scrapes as I push it through. Is this ok?
Secondly, how far should it be sitting in the roaster? All the way through?
Thirdly, do I need to coat the edges of the metal with something to prevent rust?
And finally, there are some rough bits of metal on the inside hole after drilling through. Do I need to file these off?
Any advice would be much appreciated as I am not the greatest handyman, nor do I have access to one.
