  • KKTO, whats your technique?

    i have built my own KKTO and am still learning but i would like to know the things you do in your roast? i know every HHTO is slightly different but its always good to get some ideas for techniques and what to look out for.

    i know i need to start turning my heat down after the first crack and a burb helps at the first crack but any other pointers???

    I tend to just go with the 'preheat for 10 minutes, then dump the beans in a 20 minute roast, adding extra time if I feel that they've not roasted dark enough

    I know, it's a terribly imprecise method, but it works for me 90% of the time. The biggest issue I have is that for some reason, I can't hear first or second crack on my machine.

      It depends on the green bean amount you roast & what region the beans come from
      Generally a fool proof way to roast on a KKTO is -
      1] pre heat [200-250 Celsius]while setting up your beans ect
      2] add beans and roast at full heat to first crack
      3] then control time to second crack by * letting the roast to cruise as is * reducing heat or * lifting the handle to stop the heat * or burp

      Experiment a little and roast to what flavour you like

        I'm also a beginner also, but I've found that hitting on an optimum batch size made it easier to get in the right ballpark re. the other parameters. For me that is 350g normally, down to 300g for larger beans. I take notes for each batch to help repeat successes - and not repeat failures.

        It's definitely a fun process.
