  • another newby roaster.

I just got my breville popper yesterday and tried it out today with a recomended blend from my local, for popper home roasting. it is in equal parts brazil santos, maragogipe and columbia excelso. my first batch I tried 120g obviously two much as it was roasting very unevenly and triped the thermal cut off after 3 minutes. I waited for it to cool enough to use again (so it probably started a bit hot) with just 60gm. first crack was at about 2minutes and 30 seconds and second at about 6min. the result was a very even roast with a color that looked pretty good. I tried some once it cooled and was very happy with the results. fruity came to mind and crema wow with the coffee and crema coming out in equal parts. im looking forward to doing some more and seeing the results of a bit of rest. cant wait for my starter pack as the beans I have wont last long :P

    Good start.

Second batch 1st crack is faster than Id like but as you said, you were starting the popper warm.

Do 60g next time too and start from cold to compare times.

Do you have a chimney yet?
Is it a Crazy Popper? If so Ill give you some tips on extending the roast times.

yea I need to get a chimny. I took the bottom off today and the top and blew a fan on it to blow the chaf out the door it seemed to extend the roasting time. I had to put the top back on mid roast because all the beans were coming out. I think if I can get a chimny and leave the top off it to keep it a bit cooler it will make a difference. 8-)
