    If you are in Sydney we could organise something Flo A Makita dual perhaps It is always good to have snob gatherings and see how others do things.

    Nah, Ive actually had this little gem for about two or three years. I bought it for softening paint. I reckon theyll go the distance..Makita is good gear!

    I might need to compare notes on heat settings though..perhaps a makita roasting day...?

    Hopefully they will stand the test of time they are too expensive to replace. But the adjustment on them is so good for roasting.

    I really enjoyed roasting this way. Im also looking forward to tasting whats in the cup! I just need to sort out a few things to streamline the whole process. The Makita HG1100 worked flawlessly.

    To my inexperienced nose roasting beans dont smell like coffee when the roasting process is taking place, but that familiar aroma is already starting to appear not 30 mins post roast.
    Totally agree on that one, i started with a popcorn popper where i dont think the smell is as strong due to the batch sizes being much smally but when i moved to the corretto i soon noticed the smell and its that roast smell that attracts the neighbours as they are not quite sure what it is thats roasting as the smell changes as the roast progresses.

    I also do about 500gm per week of decaf for a mate and that again is deferent to the different beans i normally roast. Probably due to the water method of decaffing the beans i guess

    As a permanent measure i tend to use the ratchet type clamps rather than the woodworking as they consistently grip with the aid of a cloth onto the heatgun better.     A good looking first time roast, mine was no where near as consistent as yours looks.

    Great results there Flo!

    No looking back now I am drinking Costa Rican roasted from my Corretto at the moment as well. 2 different varieties. Look forward to your tasting notes in a few days.

    Hey, good looking roast there..... and welcome to the band of Corretto roasters. It is just so much easier to control than a popper and good batch sizes as well.

    Im sure you will be even more pleased when you taste the result in a few days.

    My first Corretto roast

    I just completed my first "Corretto" roast. The beans were a Costa Rican (not sure of the exact variety) roasted in two batches of approximately 240g each. The first batch took a bit longer than the second (forgot to take the details   :-[) but was pulled between 15 and 16 minutes (about 20secs into rolling 2nd). The second batch hit 1st crack around 6:20 and then 2nd about 12:00ish then dumped into the "Flo Mk1 Bean Cooler" (not trying to steal anyones thunder..Im aware that others have this style of cooler, but its my 1st attempt, hence the name  ) and were room temp by 14 mins.
    From a 476g batch of greens I finished with a 400g batch of roasted beans.

    I havent got the datalogging component active yet and I also need to get the handsfree for the HG better configured (looks like a dogs breakfast atm) but at least it worked!
