  • Roast lacking aroma

Hi. Just did a batch of Maui and it's turning up tasting ok in the cup. A tad darker than I like. Thermocouple mishap, my fault. The roast went a little too gradual... FC at 16mins and dropped at 20:30mins. I'm using a corretto set up

Is this the key reason for the lack in aroma? Or did I screw something else up? There is just not much smell at all!

How long since roasting? I would not want my roast to be that long, but then again everyone's set-ups work differently.

My preference for these beans is just on the cusp of SC, no actual SC sounds. PLENTY of deep choc notes, but still get the slight fruitiness as well.

These are my last 2 roasts of Maui. 500g green, Bosch 630 HG, Palsonic PAB3600, deep square pan, insulated with fire blanket.

I got some of the best shots of espresso I have ever had from the last batch = the black line. Very very syrupy, deep cocoa and some ripe stone fruitiness, very low acidity.

Good luck with your next roast, I know it hurts when you don't get a pricey bean right!

From what I've learnt, Aroma develops between FC & Unload depending of course on giving it enough time, (3-6mins), so maybe not that. Possibly it will develop given more time. Interested to hear what those more experienced suggest.

Thanks for the input. I'll roast to that profile next. I like it black through at the moment. In fact after doing the cupping on it, I passed it through the aeropress and drunk the rest of it >.<

This is my 4th batch. But there was a 20 gap between roasting so I forgot the profile. Didn't save...

It's 3 days old at the moment. Will let you know how it develops.

Phat fingers on iPhone... I meant I didn't roast for 20days and have bad memory... So the first batch when I got back to it was a little "bumpy". I normally don't let it go to FC for so long. Normally between 10-14 mins...
