  • Roasting JBM 101

    Hi all,

Just wanted to open the floor to anyone who would care to share the benefit of their experience roasting JBM. I received 1kg of green as a gift and as I am new to home roasting I want to avoid pouring $100 down the sink!! I'm using the Behmor 1600 for point of comparison.

    Thanks in advance.

found this post, hope it is helpful:--

Re: Advice on roasting Jamaican Blue in Behmor

I have been roasting JBM for 2 years in the Behmor. I have had best results with lower size roasts and roasting at P3 (1 pound setting). I now roast 240g batches, but did 285g last year.

    Here are my recent notes:

"First outliers of first crack at 4:00
    Rolling first crack at 3:40

Set timer for 10 seconds - when timer goes off, open door fully
Set timer for 30 seconds - when timer goes off, close door

Set timer for :25 with door closed, then open door for 15 seconds
    Then do it again ...
Set timer for :25 with door closed, then open door for 15 seconds

Then press cool to start cycle
After 1 minute, press OFF, remove beans to external bean cooler
Then restart Behmor by pressing Cool

Wait 3 DAYS for roasted beans to mature"

I was given some Jamaican Blue to try out. Just did a roast on the Behmor. 200g 1/2 P2 B (plus 1-2 minutes so I can time the cooling manually at first signs of second crack) - I use this setting on pretty much everything. Very distinctive cracks. Came out beautifully consistent looking. Will have to wait a few days before sampling.
      Cheers, Daniel
