  • Help with error when connectiong to RoastMonitorUSB software

    Hello,
I am using a Victor 86C multimeter and am getting this error "software invalid stream from meter" when I try to use RoastMonitor. The meter works fine with the RoastLogger program. I am using the supplied thermocouple that comes with the meter. It's the beaded one and not the stainless steel probe. I have the latest version of Java and version 3.5, SP1 installed.

An thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.

    Thanks, Pete

Yes I have already read the USB Temperature Data Logger Thermocouple and RoastMonitorUSB software and the users manual. I am pasting in an excerpt from the RoastMonitorLog file that the program creates. As I stated the meter and probe works fine with another logger program called RoastLogger.

      Maybe this will help:

        Hi Pete,

Andy will need to confirm this, but if you did not buy the Victor from Andy (which can be ordered via BeanBay), but instead are using a std one then I think you'll find it will NOT work with the CS Monitor. From my understanding the meter Andy supplies is adapted specifically for the CS Roast Monitor software. Hence your one works OK with Roastlogger.

Note: Andy commissioned the CS Monitor s/w for his own use then provides it gratis to the CS community.

Its probably best to email Andy to ask the question, as he does not constantly monitor the forum posts. (andy@co.....)

Thanks, I'll email Andy. I didn't buy the meter through the Bean Bay because I live in the US and shipping would just cost too much.

Long story but the punchline is that the meters we sell have been tweaked by the factory to improve the data feed (which is why we don't quote model numbers as it's not what it appears to be). While other meters might work you are on your own in troubleshooting them the software was designed to work with the one we supply.
