  • Digitech DMM - compatible with RoastMonitor?

I'm just getting my tech gear together, having done my first couple of roasts using the HGDB method. The breadmaker arrives tomorrow.

As part of this, I'd like to get set up with some roast logging software, and therefore need a new DMM (my old automotive one doesn't do temps). I'd like to get an RMS meter as well as an IP67 (waterproof) one if possible, since it'll be used for automotive and electronics work. I would certainly look at Andy's DMM (? a victor 86B/C), but would like the additional features not present on that one.

The Digitech QM1571 seems to fit the bill - IP67, RMS and wireless USB - *BUT* the $100 question is will it work with the RoastMonitor software? Is it even likely or possible to?

    Thanks in advance.

[EDIT: I read some of the older threads on here about the QM1462 which does work, but has a dodgy build quality. Decisions. Decisions]

I have a Digitech QM1571 and no I have not managed t get it to work with RoastMonitor or any other of the more mainstream roast logging programs. It does however come with it's own software (on a CD) that records the live data on your PC and displays very nicely on your screen whilst doing so. It will export as a TXT or XLS. I use the QM1571 wirelessly via the supplied USB wireless adapter, manually follow an XL roast profile that seems appropriate for the bean in situ, record the data, export as TXT and massage out unwanted data (spaces to tabs), open into an XL history of previous roasts file for analysis/comparisons etc. Works well. Good Luck.

You might have to organise your priorities, sos, and decide what is the most important feature.

As a roast software, the CS RMS is a product of several years of development and is integral
to many roasting operations both domestic and commercial. One importer/distributor of roasting
hardware offers the CS RMS & Datalogger as a pre purchase option. It's that good! And it (the software) is free!! :-D

You've been a member for quite a while, so I suspect you know how popular it is with other CS'ers.
The other functions you require are available on a range of candidates but purpose built compatibility with Roast Monitor
      is only available on one.

      A read of Matt's excellent thread; http://coffeesnobs.com.au/home-roast...justments.html
demonstrates just how useful this tool is.

As a commercial roaster, it is invaluable to me.

Thanks - the fact the QM1571 doesn't work directly with the various roast software (I'd hoped it would work with roastlogger if not cs roast moniter) compels me towards the victor 86b from Andy. The fact it is also a recommended DMM for roast logger is the clincher for me.

I see the victor 86 line of DMMs seems to have been superceeded - hard to find on the bay, and not listed on victors website. Wonder what the replacement CS DMM may be in future if needed?

Somehow, with Andy on the job, I don't think that will ever be a problem, no matter which model is current. ;-D
