JonO, I'm lazy, I roast them in the same batch, just watch for that fast SC, it can sometimes creep up on you coming straight after FC with the Behmor. Like Mal I look forward to your cupping results

G'day Jon0...
Should be fine to pre-blend these beans mate as they are not that dissimilar in roast profiles individually. Not something I would normally blend though but will be interesting to read your impressions afterwards...
Mal.

Going to do the roast tomorrow and just wanted to confirm I understand the blending process correctly with the two beans (PNG Wahgi AA & Peru Ceja de Selva Estate) does one need to roast these beans separately or are they ok to mix with a 60/40 split and roast together..
I believe they need to be done separately but just wanted to make sure..
Cheers!

Thanks for all the replies and details guys, appreciated!
I ended up getting a bag of PNG Wahgi AA and Peru Ceja de Selva Estate along with some DaVinci Syrup - Toasted Hazelnut, should be good fun to play around and see how things turn out...
I was happy with the Peru beans that shipped with the roaster and looking forward to trying a few blends with the beans above as well :-)
All the best and thanks once again for all your replies, details, tips and sharing some of your roasting notes as well!

JonO, great advice here, all the beanbay green beans are great quality and you will find it isn't all that difficult using your behmor once you get a few roasts under your belt.
Andy recommends use 200 gms green beans and hit 1/2 lb and P2 then START. This is the profile I and many others use successfully. Roast to either just before or at start of SC (2nd crack) then cool. Try to be that 15 seconds ahead of the behmor, its hard at first but with practice you get better. You could also use 300 or 350 gm green beans hit 1 lb and P2 then START. It is generally recommended to start with small batches until confident in your roasting.
Beans? there are I think 25 beans to chose from in the current beanbay, Andy always includes the Peru in the behmor starter pack because it tastes so nice and is easy to roast. You can't go past the PNG, and why not blend with one of the Ethiopians, or the quality Maui Mokka Ka'apanali or the Brazil or other south american... the blend combinations are almost endless.

Thanks very much guys, sounds like PNG Wahgi is the way to go for our needs
With the PNG Wahgi AA, what roast profile have you found works best with the Behmor? (Eg, P1, P2, P3, P4..etc)
To answer your question I feel relatively confident with roasting and consistency, however I'm not as confident with knowing what the best profiles and settings are for which beans to get the flavours I'm after...
Also if any one knows of a good and easy blend with the PNG Wahgi with similar or same roast times I'm also looking forward to start trying out blending but will stick with PNG Wahgi by it's self for the next few batches but willing to buy some extra green beans if any one has any good suggestions as well.
Thanks once again! Appreciated..Last edited by Jon0; 15 April 2014, 02:56 PM.

it's hard to go past the good old PNG Wahgi that has just hit BeanBay. A CoffeeSnob staple.
The Colombian Volcan Galeros is another good one

How confident are you with roasting?
If you are not so confident with roasting cheaper beans may represent less risk if you make a mistake.
PNG Wahgi AA is one of my favourites.
Yirgacheffe is obviously different and not to my taste but some people are keen on it.
I have never got poor beans from bean bay so experiment and have fun

Suggestion on Green Bean(s)
Hi all,
I'm currently looking for some users suggestions, recommendations and experience on what a good green bean(s) would be for the following whilst Roasting in a Behmor.
- Full flavour
- Sweet tones
- Mainly for milk bases drinks (both hot and cold)
- Occasional espresso shots
- Single bean would be preferable but happy to roast mixed beans but would prefer if they could be roasted together (eg, roasting times do not differ much between beans)
- NOT bitter tasting
- If you also have a Behmor and have any tips/recommendations on the bean/roast combination that would also be fantastic!
Thanks in advanced for your replies and suggestions!
