Re: Aroma
Heres a link to one of many on the Net..... They are all generally the same. There are plenty of sites on the Net also that dispute the so-called Tongue Taste Map saying that modern experiments have discovered a much more complex system at work.....

Re: Aroma
Thanks Andy. I have to admit that when I first saw the robusta in the starter pack I though of it as filler but this has certainly proved me wrong.
For what its worth, Im also beginning to notice that Im actually tasting coffees on various parts of my tongue - this one is near centre and side.
Does anyone have a tongue schema matching taste experiences to coffee?

Re: Aroma
Well spotted Dennis. Its the reason that the robusta makes it into the starter packs sometimes... so people experiment and develop a better understanding of what they like and dislike.
This weekend I used some Indian robusta in a blend for a friend, 10% worked a treat, it gave it the "Italian bite" that he was looking for and in the single origin espresso cupping he too really liked the robusta.
...but as a single origin the ground aroma was nasty. In the blend the ground aroma was masked by the more dominant African beans.
So the moral of the story is... don’t believe everything you hear or read, let your own experience guide you.

Re: Aroma
The aroma of coffee is starting to permeate our home - my hands smell of coffee, which is far better than cigarettes (but thats another thread).
I guess its a bit like herbal teas - I think they often smell great but the taste can be disappointing. The opposite holds true for this particular bean and roast....reminds me of kopi...lol...here we go again!

Re: Aroma
Well, this RobustO definitely isnt on the nose. The days when brewing coffee filled the house -- and my olfactory nerve ---with fantastic aroma....seemed to have slipped away without notice.

Ive read that eating nuts may heighten the sense of smell..... more almond kernels. :P
If the robusta variety tastes good -- go for it. It has more caffeine that arabica, though...and to (just a few
, Dennis) palates the taste may not be as nice or complex.

Aroma
Ok, despite the prolific number of posts Ive made, I am after all, a novice to roasting.
Im in wonder of how each coffee has different roasting characterstics and each develops a distinctly different aroma. Ive only tried the four in the most recent starter pack. Today I roasted the last of the 2.4kg and have also consumed maybe 500-600gm that 2mcm sent me - I would have been totally out of beans probaby by next weekend if not for a purchase from one of our sponsors (Coffee Hit)...eek, Im drinking a lot of coffee!!!!!!!
Back to the point of why I started this topic - all the roasts apart from the robusta smell divine. The robusta doesnt smell that good to me (I said Robusta, not Robusto ;D ;D ;D) but actually tastes terrific.
