Hi Andy, this function makes sense to me. I didn't know that was a function the roaster has. I'm looking for a roaster for my dad and I to start our roasting journey. The Behmor looks like the one to start with
how much better would the behmor be with a beeper that sounds when the Err7 check comes up and an LCD readout that you could read outside? i have to place a hand over the display to read it outside as its illegible in bright daylight.

Personally, I wouldn't really want another beeping device.
...but even if a simple beeper was added it would have caused a circuit board redesign and full recertification of the roaster in Europe, Australia, Korea and the USA. That recert would cost many, many thousands of dollars (that everyone has to pay for eventually) and would have taken 12-18 months more time before you guys could buy one.
Sometimes there is a lot more to the whole story than you first imagine.
The readability of the LCD display out of doors is, however, an issue that would be worth considering in future iterations of the Behmor. I get around it at this time of year by roasting in the early morning (and hence dim light, with the sun on the other side of the house), but that's not such an attractive option here in the middle of winter (and is probably outside the approved operating range of the machine).

I can see what your saying here andy. My point is it was prolly an oversight not to do the engineering in the first instance. Personally iam not a huge fan of beeping devices either but Ian not a huge fan of underroasted beans either when I miss the display I cant read telling me to hit the start button.
Last few roasts I have done I have set the timer on my phone to 75% roast time to inform me when the display will soon be flashing. Then I only have to sit there with my hand over the display for a few seconds rather than 10 minutes.
As for the display. Not using a backlit lcd display is poor design for a device intended to be used outside.
Other than those 2 issues though iam relatively happy with my machine.
We have just received our new Behmor and the operating instructions clearly state that it is an indoor appliance and should not be used outdoors. So I guess the panel lighting is fit for purpose.

Welcome Freelander. See how your house smells after a few roasts and report back. And there are plenty who'll tell you that home coffee roasting is a back patio or garage-type affair. My i-coffee was fine for indoor roasting, but household harmony is improved if the Behmor is not used inside the main house.....and the potential consequences of a roaster fire are less severe.
Thanks for the welcome Barry. Did the first
roast tonight (Elephant Hills - must have got
the last 2.5kg's as I see their now out of stock)
It finished roasting to a CS10. Not sure if that's
right for this bean? Andy was right in that it all
happens quickly with a 100g roast. So much fun.
Hey guys just bought my Behmor 1600 plus yesterday new to the forum first roast today was Elephant Hills. Got caught with he Err7 didnt know what it meant till I found this thread great info cheers
How long after I roast with the Behmor should I wait to roast again? Hoping once I finish roasting one batch of beans I can go ahead and roast another but am concerned about over working the machine. Can someone please assist.
