I know certain someone that roasts back to back on his 2 behmors on regular basis and still hasn't managed to kill them yet, while not recommended and most likely to void warranty, I know from that certain someone a behmor roaster is a real battler
The unit wont let you do another roast anyway until the cooling cycle has completed. The memory is non volatile as well so power cycling the unit still wont let you roast again until the cooling cycle elapses.
Err7 If you see an error 7 it means you didn't press the [START] button during the 30 second countdown from un30, un29, un28.... If you didn't press [Start] during that period the roaster makes the assumption that you are not there or are too distracted and will turn off the elements and start the cooling process while showing Err7. It's a pretty small burden to hit the [Start] button once during a roast but this simple feature should ensure that it's very difficult to have a bean ignition on an unattended roaster. This is also mentioned in #5 on the Behmor 1600 Plus cheat sheet.
Hi Andy -
Correct me if I'm wrong - however the user manual or quick start guide doesn't mention this process, ie what to do when you see un30, un29 etc.
You've attached a helpful fact sheet, however I would have thought the manual should include this important information, given i had the error come up a couple of times and needed to visit a third party forum such as this to work out what was going on.
It came up the first time during the dry burn: the very first thing I was asked to do. I thought I'd ruined my coffee roaster. I didn't work out what it was at that stage because I thought it was err1.
Anyway:
In the interests of helping future users avoid my newbie errors...
Just my almost second crack (because that countdown cut off my roast before I could actually get there...)

I have no idea what papers your roaster came with but there was no need to go digging about on 3rd party sites as the manufacturers site mentions the err7 in a number of places including on the support/manuals page: Behmor Manuals and Maintenance Updates – Behmor
Java "Always good to check primary sources first" phile
It's in the manual, page 8 (from memory) might not be with flashing lights and a marching band to announce it which is why we posted the note about it but it's in there.
The unattended countdown happens at 75% of the roast and you need to hit the start button to tell the machine you are still there.
I'm just glad it makes nice coffee. The safety feature must have fluked pulling the heat from my first roast, which tastes like someone who knows what they were doing made it.
But seriously -Thank you for pointing that out, I'm relieved it's there...even if it is under the page titled: Manual Mode - How to, for Advanced Users.
I'm defiantly not an advanced user. Given this is a function that kicks in on all modes, it should be more clearly defined (I realise it is under a sub heading, auto or manual, but that is confusing given the large font/bold page heading).
If it was me, id also make it very clear in the quick start guide, so that when you do a dry burn, as instructed, you expect the safety function to come on.
That quick start guide instructs you to read the manual during the dry burn. And for anyone who had maybe checked out the manual, possibly skimmed the advanced user section (as I obviously had, because I figured I'd get to the manual modes later, like any newbie) and then dove into the seemingly easy quick guide instructions - they may well be left stumped by the lack of marching band.
So glad it is just a safety feature and not some sign I'd broke the roaster.

I could not agree more - with all of the above !!! When I first got mine, I read the manual very thoroughly (twice) UP TO THE ADVANCED USERS PAGE. At that point I went back to the beginning and very carefully followed the instructions for beginners.
So I got caught out exactly as you did.
I emailed Behmor suggesting what you said above re the warning being up front and more prominently printed. There is in fact an ideal place for it where they say it is not a set & walk away appliance. In large red bold print.
The reply I got from Behmor was brusque - almost rude - saying that the manual was fine and implying that I was dumb not to read the "advanced user" section. They also indicated that they would not consider changing the manual because they saw no need to.
Got off to a bad start with my Behmor and can't say things have improved much since. The light has failed and the bulb is not commonly used in Aust.
But mainly, I find it very slow to respond to changes, so I have gone back to using my modded poppers except when I need a 400gram roast. They are faster for 100 - 150 gram batches and it only take a little longer to do two 125 gram batches in a popper than one 250 in the Behmor. More importantly, I can do them much more accurately with the increased control over the profile, and much faster response to changes.
If the unattended requirement isnt in the non advanced section then thats a bit poor, agree that you would think they would take the suggestion on board and include it elsewhere in the manual as a continuous improvement suggestion. I knew about it from reading peoples reviews etc on the roaster. Likewise a buzzer in addition to the flashing screen would be handy in a future panel iteration (that would need all the re certification regardless).
I have found behmor support (and Andy!!) to be very helpful in assisting sorting my used behmor which was way out of warranty. Thats great customer service. And letting people buy a very reasonably priced panel to make their "old" roaster have new model features is fantastic. You hardly ever (never?) get that these days (except Tesla which comes to mind).
interesting that you prefer the popper, horses for courses I guess. Im not sure that the fast response is required in roasting, monitoring the bean temp the response is similar to my corretto and easy to manage.
The Behmor manual is poorly written. If the people at Behmor think it's fine that's probably a symptom of them being too familiar with the machine. I'm one of those rare people that actually likes reading manuals. I like to follow them through from the start any time I get a new piece of technology. And I'm definitely not stoopid, but I read the Behmor manual 3 or 4 times as well as a whole heap of info online AND the manual off the Behmor website (which is for the 110v version and quite different to the one we get here in Australasia) and I still didn't see the 'unattended' notice and found the manual generally pretty crap. It's fine as a reference now that I know the machine well, but it's not great for new users. And the fact that the manuals for the two different versions are so vastly different is troubling.
Part of the problem is the litigious culture of the USA, the manual has so many don'ts in it that the do's tend to disappear. I would much prefer to see a manual that tells you how to use the roaster and a separate 20 page legalese of what not to do (don't put in the roaster in the dishwasher, don't walk away, don't produce charcoal etc etc)
It was even rewritten a couple of years ago by a third-party and that's still what we ended up with. Please direct your issues with the manual to behmor.com which will be far more productive then buried in a thread of "me too's" here. Or better still, now you know how to use the roaster, write a better one and send it to behmor.com
My first roast last week in the Behmor went off without a hitch. I You tubed all that I could to get a feel of the thing and away I went I think having roasted in poppers for the last 4 years gave me some experience needed to roast i.e. colour , first crack etc. My notes on the first roast.
200 g Sulawesi Blue
Pre heat 1 1/2 min
Prog 1, did not get to first crack during cycle added time to get to first crack.
Hit C ( rosetta ) as soon as first crack heard.
Hit cooling as soon as 2nd crack heard also checked roast colour , all okay.
