Do all beans go through first crack?

That's a great piece they did; another on roast depth with the Behmor is great!

That's why using a temp probe is so handy. Some of the most amazing beans I've ever roasted were the Maui Mokka from a few years ago. They were tiny peaberry style beans and there was no 1C that I could hear. But played it by the numbers. Had to drop a few degrees earlier as 2C came on, but easily done when you know the 'zone' you are hunting for.

Good info to be found on the Sweet Maria's website...

Sight and smell tend to give away where a roast is at if the cracks are not that audible. Use all the senses except touch but add common sense and you'll be ok no matter the bean.

Ok, dumb question coming so be warned, how can I tell if FC occurred just by looking at the beans? I've always just listened for it.
The 3 or so pops I did hear at the start of FC were quite distinct so I was expecting the rest of FC to be similar. Obviously wasn't the case.
Btw SC was quite audible, about 3 seconds of snap crackle pop before I realised I was listening to SC and not a late FC

Some "Peaberry" beans (and normal ones too) have a very quiet 1st-Crack and may be difficult to hear when in progress. If the batch made it as far as 2nd-Crack, given the profile you have recorded, then they certainly achieved 1st-Crack along the way. You should be able to tell by inspecting the beans though...

Do all beans go through first crack?
First time roasting Brazil Peabody and FC was all but missing. I heard about 3 pops at 11:38 and that was it, nothing.
So do all beans go through FC (or SC for that matter)?
Maybe I did something wrong? Below is the profile. 100% heat and charged at 150C chamber temp, drop to 75% at 100C BT and then 50% at 200C BT. I kicked it back up to 75% trying to "encourage" FC by adding more heat but nothing heard till SC. Charge weight was 250gm, ambient temp 14C, humidity 75%.
Thoughts?
