It's just metal movement (heating/cooling) warping the lid a little.
A gentle bend in the right place should close the gap, don't force the hinges or clasp though.
    Even after only 4 roasts?
I thought it was more the angle of the bracket rather than the lid itself being out of shape etc.

Will take a look at it but so far using a twist tie has solved the issue for now

Haha awesome, that's what i thought it was, the heat bending it over time.. Thanks Andy

Ah that's a great idea, might try that, it doesn't happen often but will keep in mind. Cheers

I used some metal twist ties to secure both sides of the lid and all went fine.
I am inclined to use this to secure the edges of the door rather than bend something back to the vertical when it wasnt originally designed that way.
I think the reason its not vertical in the first place is to aid in the removal of the basket from the machine after roasting

Have you tried pushing it straight to assess the difference?

Ok so i decided to take a pic of the drum just sitting in position.
I actually think its the design that is causing the issue, the bracket that the drum sits on is at an angle and by the look of it the angle is what is causing the bottom of the basket lid to be pushed away from the drum and allow beans to escape.

Beans escaping from the roasting drum is still much better than beans getting stuck in the mesh and causing the odd skipping sound as it forces the drum to jump a bit as it hits the chaff tray. The interesting thing is that I get more stuck and burnt out beans with the newer diamond mesh drum than the original square wire screen drum.

It's the friction type and from what i can tell the issue occurs to a greater degree doing a 400g roast, I didn't notice any when doing a 200g roast

Haha mine does that too on the odd occasion... It's as though the door itself has bent outwards a bit (maybe cause of the constant heat??? Don't know...), causing a slight gap in which beans can pass through.

I just tried to bend the metal door back inwards a little to where it should be, and haven't had issues that often. Only every now and then, but be interested to hear if anyone else has had this issue and what they did

Beans Escape Behmor 1600+ Roasting Basket

    Hi All

I have an issue that when I roast 400g of beans a small number of beans escape the cage to the chaff tray where they either burn or are partially roasted.

The beans escape from the door of the basket, the door doesn't appear to be perfectly aligned to the cage when the drum is turning, after all its a simply hinge with a latch method of keeping the door in place.

I am just wondering what the trick is to stop the beans from escaping the door of the roasting cage

    Cheers
