DIY coffee roaster (Ikea Colander as drum)

Hi
Nikko is correct. At that temperature your roaster will be removing the zinc from the inside of the drum. Depending on the type of galvanising there might also be aluminium, phosphorus and less likely chrome. The cheapest galvanising process would have been used for the simple bucket and so it will just be 99.7% zinc. You could remove the gal with acid but then that bucket will rust pretty quick. Best to look to replace it with an all stainless steel drum ASAP.
Enjoy getting your monthly recommended dietary intake of zinc each day :-) Not good.
Other than that your mechanical skills in building that are ace. It's a very nice setup. It's very good to see people designing and building stuff themselves instead of buying an off-the-shelf product.

This is very late - BUT are you aware that there's hazards from using galvanised metal with heat - especially around food prep? 200c is apparently the danger temp cut off and roasting coffee is above that so DYOR.
Here is one reference - easy to find many others: Is Galvanized Steel Toxic | Bucket Outlet
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news as I think your build is very impressive - I have a DIY'd KKTO replica myself.

It does huh? I was surprise too when I first test ride it and it is being so responsive.
I know Artisan have that feature but not really, this design is rather on the cheap and cheerful setup, but I am planning another build which is more controllable than this one.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
That is an amazing setup you have there. Looks like it responds nicely to input temperature changes.
Are you planning to use Artisan to control the gas flow and air flow?

DIY coffee roaster (Ikea Colander as drum)
Hi,
Thank you for the add. I started to learn about coffee roasting 3 years ago, and has been crazy about it. I DIY built a drum roaster myself in my own garage using parts purchased from Ikea and hardware store. The main drum used is Ikea ORDNING Colander and other body is Ikea SOCKER Bucket.
Here is a recent video of it in action. Apologise for the poor video quality, first time trying to make a youtube video:
Merry Christmas to all by the way
