  • my lips are sealed

Well actually, its my coffee bean gussett bags that i want to seal, and was wondering if anyone could suggest a place to pick one up. As i am now roasting for quite a few friends, Id like the seal to look really nice, and the iron i used to do the last lot left quite a bit to be desired.

the bottom of the silver gusset bags (250g) that i use come with a really nice pressed "checker"-type seal about 5mm wide, and was wondering if this was more likely to come with a commercial type machine.

ultimately im looking for something cheap, effective and presentable - any suggestions?

Iron more neatly - and give me a call about the bags, I keep forgetting to call you (work is a nightmare this week)

Some commercial heat sealers can be had for about $125

A Seal-a-Meal or FoodSaver machine will do the job. On some models you may have to cycle it twice without moving the bag to get a good seal. Theyre common at 2nd hand stores, especially the older non-vacuum Seal-a-Meal ones.

              Re: my lips are sealed

I have a very small hand held bag sealer.
              It uses two AA batteries.
You squeeze it to activate and for a coffee bag it takes some patience to slowly move the bag through.
It was designed for sealing freezer bags, so the thicker coffee bags are a bit of an effort for it.

Im getting betyter at it though.
The one I did tonight is even straight.

                thanks guys...
after seeing some of grendels work this arvo, i realised that i was not quite getting "it" when i previously tried the iron-method. But now that i get "it", the next lot of beans should be neatly sealed in an air-tight gusset bag that all of my "customers" should be more than happy with.

thanks for all the advice guys.

You inspired me to get myself a proper sealer.

My son had one at work (auctioneers).

A cheap hair straightener works well.

I use my wifes old one.
