    I am looking for feedback on roasting Robusta Indian Monsoon with a gene cafe.I understand the process is different to the aribica i've done. Would appreciate comments. Cheers

    The only tips you need are:
    1: don't pre blend roast with an arabica
    2: roast a little darker then you would an arabica bean.

        Hi

        I just roasted some last week in my Gene Cafe. Don't try and do more than 200 grams at once. I set my temperature to 230 C initially but if it hits FC before that temperature is reached then dial down the temp to whatever the current temp is (i.e. at which FC occurred). This stops the temperature going up too much. Then over the range from FC to SC every minute dial up the temp by 1 or 2 C. This gives a gentle ramp up after FC. But don't go over 230 C.

        I roast my Indian Monsooned Robusta in the Gene and do 200 grams. My Has Garanti does the roasting of the Arabica like PNG Wahgi 1 kg + Indian Monsooned Malabar 200 grams at a time. I can then do that to perfection and later, post roast, add in the 200 grams of Robusta. As Andy suggested, trying to roast Arabica with the Robusta is not the best as you won't get the right roast depth for both of them.

          Thanks for your responses. Heated the beans for 8 min at 160 then followed Mike's plan and roasted for a total 18 mins. They look a darkish brown but given I'm colourblind!!!! Now will leave for few days and blend with an Ethiopian (robusta to provide 10%). Will try a cup of 100% robusta to see what the story is. As newby I appreciate the input. Cheers Brian

            Hi

            18 mins is about the right time. They continue to roast in the Gene for a few minutes after you have hit the stop button so they will end up a bit darker than they were when you hit stop. You just need to judge a bit when to hit stop. They will prob come out quite fine still.
