    Re: What is ramping?

    Hi sugilun,

Ramping is slowly and steadily increasing the temperature over time....

Not really possible with a popper, but any roaster where you can adjust the heat output (heatgun and dog bowl, Corretto or most commercial roasters)....

The idea is to bring the beans to 1st crack fairly quickly....and then to reduce the amount of heat so the temperature of the beans slowly increases.... which extends the time to 2nd crack and improves the resultant flavour.

It is however important that the temperature doesnt fall during this stage.... or even stay exactly the same.... but slowly increases.... like going up a ramp.

Aaahh Sugilun, so much to learn, and youve come to the right place
Here are some of the more common roasting methods in use, off the top of my head:
            1. popcorn popper
            2. heat gun and dog bowl (HG/DB)
            3. corretto (heat gun with bread maker)
            4. BBQ roaster
            5. saucepan/wok roasting
            6. oven roasting
            7. a dedicated home use roaster (Hottop, Genecafe, etc)
            8. custom built roaster, which are sometimes combinations of some of the above items.
Have a look through the Home roasting tips and tricks and Roasters topics and youll see these, and some others which Ive probably forgotten about :-[ in all their glory.
