  • VACUUM EXTRACTION FOR POPPER

I did a roast last night with my B&D popper. I tried an experiment by leaving the lid off the top and setting a vacuum cleaner hose above the bean chamber, this picked up all of the chaff and extended the time of the roast, the vacuum hose got quite warm all the way to the cleaner so it must have been extracting a fair bit of heat away from the beans. It extended the roast by a couple of minutes, anyone else tried this trick?

I wouldnt do this too often gm ,

Vacuum Cleaner motors operate very close to their maximum rating and depend heavily upon "cool" air to keep their operating temperatures below catastrophic failure numbers. Id imagine if you do this on an ongoing basis, youre going to be up for a new vacuum cleaner soon,

    Cheers,
    Mal.

Sounds a little scary greenman. I can just imagine getting a tad to close and watching thsoe beans get sucked right up into the vac ;D

When you think about the time you spend setting up your gear, etc. wouldnt it be easier to upgrade to a HG set up? When I started with a popper, it didnt take long for me to work out Id need to roast every day - whilst roasting is fun, spending my time drinking the stuff is much more pleasurable.

I blow the chaff and hot air away.
