So today for novelty value I thought "What would happen if I put some green beans in the microwave??" Of course I am on afternoon shift and the tide is too high to go swimming safely………read as I am bored on the rock this morning…..
If anyone has experience with roasting coffee in a microwave or is aware of others that have experience I would be interested to know what the verdict was.
Well for my experience I found out they roast, kinda..... :-/
Maiden voyage.
Power set at 80% for 5 minutes, stirred every minute or so.
Outside appearance of the bean becomes like a light roast or even under roasted, but shiny with oil like they had been over roasted or dark roasted.
The inside of the beans was basically black, burnt charcoal which would suggest; no lets say confirm, I did over roast them.
Chaff and smoke came off as usual.
If would also now appear that I have now stained the bottom of a white porcelain bowl with brown…that should make the missus happy…
Second go.
Power set at 30% for 5.5 minutes, again stirred every minute or so, stopped towards the end of what I think is the second crack.
Not so much over roasted this time, but definitely unevenly roasted. It would appear that they would benefit from more constant regular agitation as per normal methods.
This roasting thread may be a work in progress for the bored at heart……… :
