    Re: Hear the difference?

It never ceases to amaze me...the whole roastsing process...

Because I use a barbecue drum, the beans are not visible during their incarceration (and incineration once or twice).

As I weigh them out, and place them in the drum, their respective bean size is apparent.

Some 15 minutes later over the flames.... and out they come, totally transformed.

The size has grown immensily. The individual beans have gotten much bigger, and their combined volume is also, of course, greater than before.

They were various shades of green.... and now they have assumed some brown hue.

Before they were not fit for consumption, now you could chew them and enjoy it. The aroma is appealing.

Ah, coffee. More than just a taste.

    HI Geoff!

    Wow.

This blew me away. It is now post 5 days and it is fantastic. Almost a chocolate/nutmeg flavour. The smell that it is giving off is like chocolate covered blueberries with a slight nutmeg aroma to it. When I opened the storage container, post 3 days roast (I usually dont until at least upto 5-7 days) the buttery blueberry aroma was awesome, and has changed again over the last 2 days.

Geoff, next time some Yemen comes up on BB, I highly recommend it!

Thank you Andy for the blend recipe [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

    Hi Geoff!

Just a small post on the Dominican.

I found this bean to be extremely smooth to drink with a slight sweetness about it...Is sweet even allowed in the coffee vocabulary? ;D. It also has a massive amount of crema, almost like a guiness? At one stage I thought my Saeco was going to have a heart attack with the grinding of these huge beans, but with a little bit of tweeking the beans ground really well.

I also did a small experiment with the Dominican aswell. I roasted 160gms of it and 70 gms of Yemen B.I and 70 gms of Ethiopian H.
60/40/40 roughly. When I saw Andy last week for the pickup, he suggested that, so I am going to give this a try and see how it works out.

Will post in a couple of days on the taste!

I noticed when I roasted the Dominican, FC was like a gunshot going off....it too, sounds like marbles against glass aswell Dennis!

I cant get over how it is a nice looking bean, hardly any flaws in it and smooth, almost wax like...and BIG!

I am looking forward to tasting it tomorrow, it will be post 7 days... and smells awesome!

    Hear the difference?

This afternoon while roasting tiger mountain in one gene and yellow bourbon in the other I noticed something new. 8-)

If exaggerated, the yellow bourbon could be said to have a softer sound while rolling around in the pyrex - like tennis balls in a drum; the sound of the tiger was sharper - like marbles against glass.

I wonder if this is due to the shape, hardness of the bean, or a combination of both? :-/

    Intriguing! Coffee...so many variables!
Working...
